| Better Steering Step By Step Advice
Long and short, i am fed up with doing 90 point turns to transition to the next obstacles. I would like a tighter turning radius and would like to do it in stages to see the improvements of each. I have researched what i could but it seems like most of the answers are a full blown upgrade to multiple components. Is the first step taller gears for the front, then XVD's, then Axial (Or other MFG) HC Knuckles & Chubs? I am not sure which gearing to go to for the front to be honest. I have done the 4 link upgrade for the front and Alum Steering upgrade and noticed a decent amount of increased flex and a definite improvement to the steering feel. I just finished the Tranny Mirror Mod and from my initial run in the house it looks like it was worth the effort but need to actually test it on the trail. |

Sounds like you know what you need to do. I used the 3Racing CVD's in mine. Axial Overdrive Gear set. AX30401 Axial High Clearance Knuckles. AX30526 And Axial Alloy C Hubs AX30495 |

Over drive gears will help pull the front around, but for more steering you will need axles that turn more and high clearance C's at the same time. One without the other wont net you anything. For the most steering and strength, do the xr mod, either short or long depending on your needs. Unfortunately, this one costs the most as well. |

The xr mod seems to be the way to go for the SCX10 to really get the best turning radius. I did the OD gears in the front first and didn't see much of an improvement so I went back to stock gearing up front. My largest gain has come from a bent steering arm, a longer servo horn, new knuckles, xvd's, and a transmitter that has end point adjustments. I don't do comps but if I ever do, I'll try the xr mod.

I know you want to see baby step improvements, and you can do all those things and get a bit...and I mean just a bit...more steering. But if you really want to see some improvement, try the XR mod. It is a little involved, but seriously worth the effort. By 50% for me..... After 100 gates yesterday...not one hitch |

Thanks for all the replies guys. Is there a "how to" on the XR mod?

Vanquish chubs, knuckles and VVDs improved my turning radius immensely.

step one would be to buy a non RTR radio that gives you end point adjustments since you already have aluminum steering components. you can do all the steering mods you want, but unless you can actually adjust the end points of the servo you're not actually going to gain anything except a hole in the wallet. if you get a new radio you will find the next limiting factor will be the working angles of your axles - then it will be something like the steering link hitting the axle - then it will be the tires hitting the shocks - then it will be the servo is too weak to crank the rubber in the direction you want - before you know it you've got all the mods in the front including hi-steer knuckles, super duty servo, CV axles, overdrive gears, dig units, etc etc it just keeps going |
