Default My "Cheap as I can find it" Build.

It started with an idea of how cheap could I really build one using new and used parts. So I started stalking late night auctions. You know the ones. The ones that end at 3:00am and hardly anybody bids on them.
Well I scored some good stuff on those auctions. I got a complete new chassis for $28.50 shipped. I got a set of used (but not hurt) stock shocks for $12.00 shipped. A bunch of rtr links and four link trusses for $10.00 shipped. And a Tamiya F350 body new for $18.75 shipped. All this was done over a 3 week period with many late nights and early mornings....lol There were only the three links so I bought some all thread, brake line, and rod ends for around $18.00. For other used parts I had were a set of axles, a tranny with RR metal gears, Drive shafts, and some 1.9 ripsaws from a rtr.I'm far from done but I'm still looking for that next deal on something to add to the build. Here's some pics.

I just placed an order for Holmes Hobbies new Trail Master sport 540 motor for $11.99. It's not the greatest motor that you can get from HH but it's still HH. And they don't put out junk!

Here's the specs:
The Trail Master Sport 540 is a budget motor built for messy, dirty action. Whether on the rocks or in the dirt, the Trail Master Sport is perfectly at home. Sealed can construction with spring mounted brushes and bronze bushings for running in the muck without worrying about ruining an expensive motor.

"540" motor size
27 turn
Zero timing, universal installation and rotation direction
1/8th inch shaft diameter
m3 mount holes, 25mm spacing
bronze bushings

I'm really curious how these motors will hold up. I've got a couple of beater rigs these would slide nicely into...

Me too...I'm getting away kind of easy because I had some of the main components already. Axles, Tranny, Tires, wheels, And I have a couple different Esc's to pick from.

Go with a 400 oz servo from Solar Servo $17, overkill for the scx10 with 1.9's

I got my motor from Holmes Hobbies today. So I hooked it up and took it for a bench test. Let me tell ya this $12 motor is worth every cent. I'm running it with a Novak Rooster on 84/16 gearing and from a dead stop to top end this thing is as smooth as glass. I can see these motors being a huge hit with the TTC guys for sure.I also had a chance to mock up the body also. I think it's working out ok so far.

I did some body work the last couple days.. I want to give a big thanks to HOOSIERDADY from the CHOP SHOP for the big tip on filling in the holes on the sides and the antenna hole. And just in case you don't know The Chop Shop turns out the sickest hard body customs there are. If you're looking for some hard body work to be done he's the guy to do it. But any way Here's how mine turned out.
