| honcho scx10 overdrive ???
ok so i want to know does putting 36t14t overdrive in the front axle really help with climbing? does it wear tires real fast or over time? does it put stress on the transmission or any other part on the scx10? and does it change the steering to better steering or less really would like to know as everyone keeps saying this and that ! lol rock crawling takes the boredness out life! |

| Re: honcho scx10 overdrive ??? UnderDrive and OverDrive Gears???? I myself have both scx10s with overdrive front gears. One of the scx10 also has an underdrive rear. It helps with some steering as in making a sharper turn and also with climbing hills. I prefer them in both rigs that I run them in. I havent noticed anything negative myself from overdriving the front. |

if you watch a stock rig driving round a corner then a o/d one on the same corner you would see a big difference the front just digs in and around it go`s i have the od in mine with stock flat irons and it just feels so much better at everything. there a big climb were i go with my mates that ive tried to climb for ages and couldnt do it then today i managed it. |

I tried it in one of my SCX10's and didn't like it. On a flat surface in loose dirt I could see the rear being drug along by the front with the rear under driven. I went back to the stock gears up front and retained the U/D gears in the rear. At the same time, I switched from a 20 tooth pinion to a 12 tooth pinion. Climbs very well now. 35 turn brushed motor in all of my SCX10's.

I've got overdrive in the front , 38/13s then the next step down. The H.D. Gear sets in the rear. It makes a major difference in pulling up a hill and also slipping tires to make it turn tighter. On paved surfaces ( which my scale trucks don't see ) I don't know a difference. I run it on the drive way to test when I get done with maintance. There is no reason to not put the overdrive gears in a axial product. It also adds more weight down low.

I have overdrive/underdrive in my truck and it most definitely helps on climbs. It's chewed up my RC4WD baja claws a tad, but it really just helped to break them in quicker. I wouldn't run a lot on pavement, but other than that go for it. The gear swap is one of the biggest upgrades you can make.

I run OD front, i dont think it effects the tranny much, and as stated tire wear is minimal.

I wouldn't drive much on concrete or pavement. Other than that, it's not that hard on the drive train. It causes slight wear on rear tires but not much. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.

go all robinson racing gears in the trans. Esp if you planning on putting any power to it. I run robinson gears in both scx10. Def a mod to consider. But some others will say dont replace the stock gears till you break them.

| Re: honcho scx10 overdrive ??? I went for several years with ax-10's and scx-10's with the plastic tranny gears but eventually they do wear out and/or will fail, especially with everyone running lipo these days and more and more powerful motors. Now I run Hot Racing steel gear sets in all my axial trannys. $28 for all 3 gears and they have served me well, I really like them.

I run od/ud in all my axial axles, ax/scx and ar60's. Definitely wouldn't recommend driving on higher grip surfaces (carpet, pavement etc.) for too long, would recommend steel trans gears/driveshafts. Am on the fence about tire wear. |

Hot racing steel tranny gears have surprisingly given Robinson Racing a run for their money I must say. From what I've been reading everyone seems to love the durability for the price. Haven't tried the Axials since all my axial trannys already have Robinson internals and MIPs. The only HR upgrade I have is their aluminum tranny housing on my sporty and its been great. Back to the OP if you run a high power system meaning 3s or 4s with a powerful handwound motor or a strong sensored if you're going brushless, OD front definitely helps. Spiral cut gears are so much smoother and efficient as well. If you run OD front UD rear on a sporty rig it helps on those steep off camber climbs. Plus supposedly supposed to reduce torque twist...I also like the fact that a slower rear end makes a lightweight rig rock hop lol. |
