Default GiantsCheated SCX10 Build

Not new to RC but new to scale crawlers. Already own a Wraith RTR which I got at Christmas 2012 and I'm currently upgrading for pure crawling. Got this SCX kit Tuesday and am about 12 hours into building. I'm just about at a rolling chassis. No motor in it yet but it's getting the stock Wraith motor and ESC while my Wraith is getting a motor and ESC upgrade. I have a Tekin 35T FX-R motor/esc combo NIB ready to go but I haven't decided if it's the right choice for my Wraith and if I should return them. Regardless, for now the SCX is getting the Wraith RTR electronics and NiMH electrics. More pics to follow.

Looks good.

I am at exactly the same stage in my first SCX10 build. I will probably start putting electronics in this evening.

I seem to have encountered an issue during the build process and I'm not sure what went wrong. Today I installed the stock Axial motor that I pulled from my Wraith into the SCX10. The installation of the motor into the trans went seamlessly. When reinstalling the transmission into the frame of the vehicle however, the motor just ever so slightly hits the nut holding the upper link to the frame. I can reinstall the motor/trans but somethings seems off.

Anyone else encountered this?

I had the same thing happen also. I thought I had done something wrong but that's the way it fits

You can put washers under the trans to shim it up or go with a smaller pinion and/or spur gear.

I would worry about the driveshaft angle being steep by shimming the tranny up...may not pose a big problem, but I like keeping my angles down..

Got as far as I'm going to get before body work. Still waiting on paint in the mail along with new Wraith titanium links and carbon steel driveshafts. Should be here Tuesday.

Gutted all the electronics from my RTR Wraith including Tx as I'm going to grab a Futaba 4PLS for that and already have new motor/ESC.

The SCX runs great and is a super fun truck. I can't wait to wrap it up and see the complete package. I'll definitely be keeping this one as scale looking as possible and probably won't do a heck of a lot of upgrades to it. Maybe grab one of those miniature accessory kits like the high-lift jack and gas can.

Just couldn't resist; had to break it down and fix this. Good call 'mark32', motor has no resistance now and the transmission bolts down nice and snug. Thanks.

Only took me almost 2 years but nearly finished with my SCX10 Rubicon build. I moved last year, halfway across the country, and the kit got put into a box and not opened until a couple weeks ago. The first kit with this level of detail I've probably ever built, tough when you're a perfectionist. I can't help but notice so many mistakes and flaws in the finished job but oh well. Maybe next time. Still have some more items to put on, DSPro double jerry can holder, LED light bar etc.
