Default discussion thread on vp parts

nothing against anyone but why buy a rig costing $350 upwards and then swap all the parts for vp stuff costing a few grand to do the whole thing

i just dont understand when all you get is some bling factor. from what ive seen and read it doesnt really make it crawl up and down stuff any better so can someone please explain why

good looking parts , very well made but to pricey for me. I run the cheaper stuff on my rigs and never had an issue. IMO if it doesn't help performance why buy it.

One word. RELIABILITY. I am not saying all their parts are the best but most of them in my opinion are. Plus the fact that they have great customer service and stand behind their parts. I do believe most of their parts have a lifetime warranty.

If you need aluminum parts vanquish is a good place to go but not the only place. Most people throw vp stuff at their trucks just because he saw some guy on here say something about another guy who knows a guy that only uses vp stuff.

It's the exact opposite for integy. Everyone talks about how crappy it is and don't buy any of their stuff but I have run their knuckles, chubs, chassis plates and a few other things with no problem. Also their Tni coated hex drivers are the best I've ever used.

I get more than just bling factor I can assure you that. Certain parts of thiers are not needed but I like to be able to run a competition or just drive in general without having to worry about a part failing.

-high quality machine work
-extra strength where needed
-added adjustability and function

For example, when running VP Wraith knuckles on my XR10 I am able to MAX out the steering capability to aprox 15 more degrees of throw.
When using the VP upper link mounts on an XR you are able to adjust the squat and anti squat at the axle.
The VP hub system is another very good reason to run VP.

Basically, if you want the best outta your rig, VP is a good option to go with. If you can settle for sub-par reliability then Integy or RC4WD aluminum parts will be fine

I didnt get into $1500 comp rig to go and put on chinese made junk...

Its understandable that not all of the VP parts are reasonably beneficial but without them my truck certainly wouldnt be what it is today..

VP makes awesome upgrade parts. $350 for the kit, and while in stock for they are great, but throw some upgrades on and they really start to perform better. You add strength, color, personality and performance with all the VP parts. It's far more than just bling.

Just like a real Jeep, in 100% stock form it can do the Rubicon trail, but people spend $40K on a brand new Rubicon and then drop another $5-25K into one for trailing. Why? Because they can, it's fun and gives their rig a custom, unique appearance and performance.

I can only speak for the parts I've heald in my hands. I bought a used set of tires and the beads weren't perfect. I couldn't for the life of me get them to hold on a plastic badlock wheel. I found some beat down scratched up wheels in the classifieds and they hold a bead great and the quality of work is outstanding. I bought another set of vp wheels and I'll be buying more vp parts in the future. I think the process of making parts between vp and integy/topcad is different where vp is a true "billet" process and integy is molded aluminum that gets surfaced by a cnc. Someone who has a better understanding of cnc can probably explain it better.

Another thing people are quick to judge is they think vp is just some small no-name company, but aren't they part of a bigger company that makes things much more complex than crawler parts?

Me too, great quality for all of their parts that I've used, great warranty, made in USA, and local. When I've talked with Tom he's always interested in feedback and open to new parts and bringing back old parts like SCX High Steer Zero Ackerman knuckles.

I have not used all of their parts, I have some of their Wraith and SCX parts.

Your not going to find many people that talk bad about vp. They do make good stuff but people need to not be blinded by crap that People put out there like "if you want the best out of your rig go with vp..." Just because you put vp stuff on your truck doesn't mean you have a good truck.

Crawling is more about the driver skill then how much money you have into your truck. That's what drew me into crawling was that it takes skill to make a gate but it seems like people still think that you need to throw $1000 at you rig to make it ok.

I spent a wad on VP parts and I haven't run my rig yet. However the quality is top notch!

Only VP parts on my Honcho or my Wraith so far are Titanium Links and I love them, I plan on get full axles from VP for both as soon as the funds permit.

So what company makes better upper link mounts for the XR axles than VP? Which knuckles give you more turning radius than VP Wraiths?

That is why I said "if you want the best out of your rig VP is a good choice". Not that its a must have.

If directed towards me...I dont know what was so wrong about my post?
The original post asked why people spend money on VP parts, not what variables crawling is made up of.

My post wasn't a jab at you. I was just saying in general people assume if you have a bunch of vp parts you will win all you comps witch is not true I did very well with my stock xr and still do even though now it has a few upgrades.

People's thoughts have changed from when I got into crawling and everything was hand made or modified parts and now it's all bolt on stuff.

Uselless thread. Cry because you can't afford VP. So lets start a thread on it. It's a hobby. Spend your money the way you want. You want to waste your money on booze, drugs and cigarettes the power too yah. If you want to spend your money on your RC hobby then giver. I have $3200US 20x14 American Force wheels on my Dodge Cummins. Why, because I fukin want too. Spend the money on what you want. You keep your cheap china crap on your RC because that's your choice. I'll keep VP on my rigs because its my Choice. Buy it right the first time.

Totally understand man. I didn't mean to get carried away by taking that the wrong way. I too comped a stockish xr from the time they came out till this year and it worked amazing all along the way, bringing me several first places and numerous podium spots at various comps.
