Almost finished I picked up an older Matzilla chassis from a board member for a good price. He said it was new and had never been used. When it arrived in the mail, he was right, it didn't have a scratch. I say older because the transmission mounting plate sits on top of the frame rails. I think the new ones have the plate mounted between the rails. Also, there were no holes drilled for a winch. Here it is a couple of hours after I had it.http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47340.jpg On day two I fashioned a mounting plate for the battery http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47317.jpg On day three I had to make new front links and try different drive shaft lengths because of the c hubs being clocked too far forward. this problem has been corrected. Thanks Postclanker. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47188.jpg After resolving that problem, I chose a color. It's Tamiya Mica Red. It has a nice small flake to it in the sun. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47341.jpg. Since then a couple of weeks have passed. Today I installed the glass, wipers, and dash and ordered a set of wheels from Patrick at Locked up. I also installed the Toyota 4WD stickers from MTHEAD. The RC4WD Dick Cepeck's will be sold along with the IROCS. So as of today, this is how it sits. In the next couple of days I will install the 3Racing winch. Make another plate for the other side to hold a smaller battery and the RC4WD wireless winch controller that I will use with the 3Racing winch. From there, who knows. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47347.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47345.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47344.jpg |

Re: Almost finished Looks great, really like the color. Nice job sir"thumbsup" |
Re: Almost finished Thanks for the compliments Postclanker and Nappy. Wheels arrived today. Photo's next week. I'm going to try and get the plate for the battery finished as well. |
Re: Almost finished So much fun with toy trucks....I'm using a Hillux cab for my build as well....struggling with the color choice....I am having a vendor build my tube chassis for a competition truggy ....just don't have the time these days..? I've seen the preliminary pics...I won't want to paint the tube...it will be stainless ....so need some contrast ...red was my first choice....metallic blue, orange....I don't know .....green even entered the picture today..want to show off the stainless goodness....this builder is awesome.... I'm liking your truck ....."thumbsup" |

Re: Almost finished Thanks smeesho, more photo's next week. |
Re: Almost finished A few upgrades over the last couple of days. I installed the 3racing winch, the Adversary wheels with Agile rings,VP .225 hubs, and a set of the rubberized RC4WD mirrors. I went with the gold hardware for the rings. I thought it would make a good contrast against the red body color. I'm not sure if I like it or not. What do you think? http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47589.jpghttp://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47590.jpghttp://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47591.jpg |
Re: Almost finished truggies clean nice work I like the wheels also |
Re: Almost finished Thanks kakachille, so you like the gold hardware, thanks for the opinion. |
Re: Almost finished The gold is hardly noticeable. Looks fine to me. Also you selling the cepeks and irocs? |
Re: Almost finished Thanks for the vote fr8cture. I'll work with it for a day or two and then change them out to the stainless to see what I like more. You're right however, even in person, it's hard to really see the gold. |
Re: Almost finished Makes me miss my locked ups :( |
Re: Almost finished Gold and red is a good color combo Raceeng18...but didn't show up nice in the photos . Photo's anyway....nice wheels BTW... I have busted those rubber mirrors ....ripped them right out.... |

Yes, they will probably get destroyed, thought I'd take a chance with them. I used E-6000 to glue them in so hopefully they'll pull out before breaking. Thanks for the compliment on the wheels. |
Re: Almost finished I used an idea I saw on a friends build,( thanks Postclanker) a Tractor Supply tool box to hold my battery. I cut the mesh screen and installed the box. A nice tight fit.http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47936.jpg I also wanted to be able to make the battery to esc hook up without having to remove the body so I ran the esc connection into the box.http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47937.jpg I've had it on the rocks so a little road rash and my snorkel fell off.http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47939.jpg I also received a package from Vanquish yesterday so the 8* hubs and knuckles got installed. Oops, need a lock nut on that side.http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3480-47938.jpg |
Re: Almost finished That looks excellent sir...."thumbsup" That box turned out nice....how's she crawl??? |
Re: Almost finished Thank you sir. It crawls OK. Seems to get up and over things pretty well but it's not there yet. I think a shock change is in order. It's pretty heavy and geared very low. I'm running a Tekin 45 turn motor and may swap it out for a 35 turn out of one of my other rigs but I may try a different pinion first. It doesn't have the wheel speed I want. Other than that I'm pretty happy. It's nice not to have to remove the body each time I need a battery change. |
