Default Receiver range? Help!!

For some reason ever since I bought the honcho it only has a 15-20 range from the radio. After that it goes all crazy and backs up, etc. Is there something wrong or what I don't think it's normal. I shortened the antenna by a few inches but did nothing to the wire. I would like to fix this if possible so if anyone knows what to do or how to fix it let me know!

How did you shorten the antenna wire? Is it 2.4 GHZ. Keep receiver and antenna wire away from motor if you can. Keep it away from metal. If it's 2.4 all of the above shouldn't matter. I have my 2.4 receiver wire coiled on itself and sealed in a box and still get great range. Turn on the tx and rx, start walking away from your rig slowly while turning the steering wheel but don't touch the throttle, see how far you can get before things start to act up. If you can get over 50', start looking at something wrong at the motor that would cause interference. Radio problems can be hard to track down. Good luck, let us know what you find.

Edit. If your steering servo continues to work without glitching as you walk away, you may have problems in the receivers channel #2.

I only cut the antenna tube because it was too tall for my liking, and it's 2.4 stock rec and radio that came with the honcho. I have it where it comes right out of the box into the tube and mount for the tube, you can't see the wire at all so I don't think it's interfering with the motor or any metal for that matter. It's good for about 15-20 feet that's it lol. I can't figure it out... Could it be a faulty rec? I'll check it for bare wires showing I'm sure that could be a factor..

Yes it could be and now sounds like a faulty radio system. I would contact Axial and see what they can do for you.

This may sound like a stupid question but have you tried fresh batteries in your radio?

Yeah I bought brand new batteries when I got it and just last week swapped news ones into it. I contacted axial they said I can ship it in and let them take a look at it, so we'll see how that goes and hopefully they cover it lol.

When you say you coiled up the wire, how much wire are you talking because I only have about 9 inches? I'm beginning to think that's not right... I bought it new so did it come from the HS like that, would they have sent out something like that?

That's about the right length for a 2.4G radio. You're OK. My Futaba radio receiver antenna is about five inches long.

Okay good... I was going to go back to the hobby shop and ask what was going on, because it was on display on their front counter.. But we'll see what Axial says in a few days.

We'll mine hasn't been submarined yet lol but it does drive me crazy, for a little I just thought it was normal until I read up on it and watched people be at least 50ft from their rig. It's been like this since I got it...
