Default The "Python" juggy build

After a couple comp style crawlers I wanted something a lil different.
My buddy Dave and a couple other friends had bought Wraiths. (Dave is a bad influence! more on that later) I liked the way the Wraith looked and I loved the AR60 axles but again wanted something different. Saw a few SCX10 chassis rigs and love the scale frame and look of it.
So with a half arsed idea of what I wanted I started collecting parts.
Knew I wanted versatility so a RC4WD 2 speed trans was the first thing I bought.
After some searching around I found an SCX10 chassis on ebay with some tube and a cut up Jeep new bright body.

Figured this might save some time . . . boy was i wrong! LOL

Got lucky one evening and found a set of built AR60 for a great price!
Yay ebay!

Was liking the idea of having a driver so Ghostrider it was!

Raped the old AX10 for some hardware and odds and ends
and mocked everything up.

Links are in the way of the drive shafts etc etc etc.
So tore it back down bought a wraith skid grabbed a few sticks of 3/16 brake line and fired up the welder. After alot of cutting and welding and a few redesigns of the chassis
I had something that would work and looked pretty cool too.!

Gave it all a coat of rattle can bedliner which turned out pretty good!

So back to mock up.

Now we are cooking with gas!

Upper links rubbed the front frame section at flex so back down it went a few more tweaks to the chassis were done. Added some more bracing that doubles as a battery mount to the front as well.

Played around with different shock ideas and lengths and ended up with Integy 120mm at all four corners with a droop kit to try and keep the stance at reasonable height.

OK time to pretty this up a lil. Found some hairnet material one day goofing around and i had an idea. Snakeskin paint job!!
A whole lot of sanding and a few beers later . . .

Note to self . . . too many coats of clear are a bad thing! LOL
Threw in a 45 turn and a stock SCX10 ESC i picked up from Dave and started seeing what it would do.
Flex was great but knew i could get a lil more out of it.
Couldnt go too nuts or driveshafts would be an issue and the only thing that i dont like is the servo hits the winch mount area of the frame at full compression.
Settled on 120mm shocks in front and 138mm in the rear.
Decided it was time to 86 the old plastic links while i was at it.

The Rock Krawler links stretch the wheel base 3/4 of an inch which I like. Couldnt really use them up front though, servo clearance is already an issue so traded one set for a set of aluminum front links. May try a dinky servo mount kit later on.

Tossed in a fresh 45 turn silver can and time to go play!

Man this thing is fun! Dave and a few others came out to get in some crawling that day.
I LOVE the 2 speed!!!! 1.78 in high 5.05 in low= Happy Happy Happy
The rig did great, have a couple areas that need attention though.

1: Stock drive shafts arnt gonna last to long with this thing its HEAVY!

2: The axles came with cheap overdrive gears that didnt have a hole in the pinion gear shaft so had to tighten them back up a few times.

3: The old wore out Venom beadlocks I threw on arnt gonna make it much longer! LOL

4: Need more power to keep up with Dave's brushless Wraith! LOL

Started playing around some lights.
Got some Auto Zone led light bucket that Dave (Mr Bad Influence) had left over.
Popped the caps off pulled the led out drilled a hole in the base and epoxied the led back in the base.
They fit perfectly in behind the clear headlight lenses of the body!
Epoxied them in and man those suckers are bright!

Got a set of Axial under drive gears with the holes and a set of MIP hardened drive shafts. Pics are of the overdrive gears with no holes. Didnt get a pic of the new ones.

Had to move the rear link mounts around a bit to get a better angle on driveshafts.
Added more tube to the stinger to brace it and a lil more in the roof area of the cage.
Tossed in a 35 turn and a 7 cell pack and off to test crawl, bash, and hope fully not break anything! LOL

Had a blast and didnt break anything! Steering servo came loose on the mount that was about it. Will look for something better soon.
Very close to getting the suspension dialed in.
So far 30wt in the front and 50wt in the rear seem to work very well for handling at speed and articulation.
Need to put this thing on a diet!
Still want more power (I sound like a Suzuki Samurai owner in the 1:1 world I know)
LOL

Making an interior for this thing is gonna be interesting to say the least.
Looks like a cut up Wraith interior will be a good start will have to scratch build the rest. Thinking Im gonna make the dash look more like a custom CJ flat panel style dash.
Got some sheet lexan and some stickers and goodies for the interior.

Still havnt quite settled on the interior design just yet.
Ideas and comments are welcome here guys.

Retired the worn out Venom beadlocks.
Another ebay find, got a set of Hot Racing aluminum bead locks and CI 2 stage foams.

Love the 2 stage foams! Sanded all the powder coating and HR script off and repainted them. Will look for another less bulky style of beadlock ring later on. they block to much of the view of the rim for my taste.

Alot more to come. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Later
Sean

Well considering there isnt a whole lot of SCX10 left of this thing can a moderator move this to the 2.2 or wraith section?
Where ever you feel it would belong is fine with me.
Thanks
