1950 Chev Panel Truck It's getting cold out now so It's time to start a winter project. I thought I would try something different, something I haven't seen much of yet. I started with a Dingo kit and made a few minor changes.. Moved the electronics box and battery tray. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild001.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild002.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild003.jpg Put the HH ESC up front and made a servo mount. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild006.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild007.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild008.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild009.jpg Body came in the mail today so I started to fit it and build the links. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild010.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild011.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild012.jpg I need to come up with a bumper that is gonna fit the era to keep it looking fairly stock. Any ideas are very welcome."thumbsup" |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck is that the grave digger body your using or another one from another company. looks good so far |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck It's the Parma 50's Panel Truck. Nice and thick too, .060""thumbsup" |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck What colour are you going to paint it? Nice truck by the way. I'd been thinking of doing a build on a Trail Stomper with this body but then the Stomper went out of stock. Looking forwards to seeing how this goes Subbed |

I saw Jwalkers paint on the rat rod he is doing and fell in love. I'm not sure I'm going as elaborate as he did but we'll see what happens. |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck For a bumper, just use a "flat plate" style with a nice round curve. http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0fab6ccd.jpg |

That's what I was thinking"thumbsup", but I want to incorporate a winch too with some sort of brush guard. I've been searching the web but I haven't found what I'm looking for yet. |

Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck Well, this is what I came up with for body mounting. Seems to work ok, but we will see how long it lasts. These are really strong magnets, hopefully not too strong. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild013.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild014.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild015.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild016.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild017.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ckbuild018.jpg |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck Push the bumper out a bit like the old WWII military trucks. |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck That's what I'll have to do I think unless I go with a newer style bumper. |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck Was curious when you paint the body how you will get around the magnets you already installed before the paint?????? |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck I will be painting on the outside. I'm going for a dull weathered look."thumbsup" |

Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck Around 10.5 - 10.75". It's pretty short. |
Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck This should be an awesome rig when completed, can't wait to see it on the trails "thumbsup" The 50's panel truck was always one I thought of using, great choice! I'll be eagerly watching your progress on this one. |

so it is even shorter then the Dingo's 11.4" WB ? 1/12 scale body ? |

Re: 1950 Chev Panel Truck How many layers of paint will you be doing. I saw this really cool body on an SCX10 Honcho which had silver on the inside of the body and bronze and brown layer on the outside followed by the chosen outer (final) colour. It looked great once the body had been sratched up on the rocks cause it looked like under the outer layer there was rust and once that scratched through, bare metal. I though you could do something like this and have the outer coat matte black or gunmetal grey and then sand it back to the rust. Then a bit of weathering and you'd have a great paint job. |
