Default Pham's - nissan_driver24 - Axial SCX-10 JEEP WRANGLER G6 Kit Build

Hey guys I want to share with everyone my next and new build thread. So we will start off with what got dropped off at my front door today.

Once again like my last build thread, I will do my best to answer everyone questions and comments, this build thread will be either be taken in my Garage, living room, and kitchen depending where my 2 kids and family are during that time of the day lol.

As always Axial with all of their Kits and RTRs boxes art work looks amazing, in my eyes some one of the best looking RC boxes on the market (working in a hobby shop you get to see all kind of boxes that each company uses). I love that this is covered with the G6 wording, my friend Brian Park and his G Crew really deserve this one for all of the hard work they put into this hobby. Also it is awesome for Axial to set us up on this new rig that's gonna be available at the stores very soon.

Here are a couple of pictures to get everything started, of what came in this box.

Neither. It has a 12" wheelbase which is in between the dingo and honch/jk's.

I'm not really sure yet with this build as of right now I'm trying my best to get this thing driving asap. But there are some ideas I am throwing around on this bad rig!

Wheelbase is a smidge shorter than the Honcho/Jeep JK at 12 inches rather than 12.3 inches

That's incorrect. Although I don't think adding 0.3 inches would make it look horrible.

That is correct!

I have been working on this rig as much as I can these last two days. Stayed up until 7am this morning getting it together. Pictures will posted as soon as possible (there's a ton!)

So I decided I want to start this build thread with actually building the rig from the bottom up, then start doing my 0.02 cents to it. Here it goes with a bunch of pictures.

Got the desktop all ready to go for this build.

Box art comparing my Daughter's Birthday Gift Jeep JK Kit vs the Jeep Wrangler G6

Weighed the boxes and the JK reads 8lbs 3oz

G6 Wrangler reads 7lbs 7oz about a 12oz difference between the two boxes.

Open Box Art

What's in the box pulled out before diving in.

Instructions manual bag opened

Adding to just a few of my Axial Manuals

My first day with the Kit I decided to work on the body a little first.

New steering wheels, I really like the one piece design with the steering column together.

Axial new light bar mount, this kit comes with same light bar that came with the Kit Axial Exo Terra Buggy. Next to it is Vanquish Products Jeep JK Poison Spider Rigid Light Bar Mount. The two have different mounting points.

Cage was really easy to build only three pieces to it with only 6 screws needed to put it all together. Very nice fitment and looks good.

So Here might be the boring part for everyone!!! Some may find this info useful in their own builds. I know when I started it was nice to see some pics to help me build something I was stuck at.

Putting the Pinion Gear together, if you get the optional Axial ring and pinion gear you would skip this step.

Building the Ring gear with Axial HD locker.

Axial states in the manual to put a little thread locker on the shaft ends, and I think once it sets it would get rid some slop or lash between to mating area.

Using Vanquish Product Great for the entire build.

Putting the entire Axle together, one of the thing I noticed that a big different about this kit from Axial other kids is that both the front and rear axles are 4 linked.

Installing the Chub for the front Axle

Steering Knuckle pieces.

Pieces to finsh the front Axle off

If you don't get anything else out of the build thread maybe this would be useful information. When putting steering knuckles on the Chub do you have a problem with the Pipe Flange falling out??? Use a couple pieces of magnets to keep them from falling out while installing them!!! Works every single time.

What's needed to finish a rear axle with the lockouts

Both Axles finished, on to the next item on the list.

Building the WB8 Wild Boar Drive lines. Make sure you use the thread lock on the screws.

Manual states to make sure you match up the marks on the shaft to each other. Lines are next to the collars on the shafts.

Building the Icon Aluminum Bodied Shocks with the machined Polyoxymethylene shock Pistons, Titanium Nitride Coated Shock shafts are just butter smooth. I did not use the rubber bumps stoppers to get a little more travel. Team AE green slime is used on the O-rings to keep the nice and lubed.

Front and Rear links and shocks all installed on the axles.

Transmission built with once again VP Grease.

More Pics on the next post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Electronics Pose!!!! Speed controller will be: Tekin RS Gen2 (but that may change to something else) Motor will be: Tekin Roc 412 3100kv Servo: Futaba BLS157HV BEC: Castle Creation External BEC Receiver: Airtronics FH4T 92010 RX-461 Transmitter will be: Airtronics MT-4
This is a proven setup that I have been using, I also ran this setup when I placed first at the Recon The Fix 18hour Endurance Challenge with not one hiccup.

Here's a trick that I do to all of my scale crawler / crawlers that run sensored brushless motors. I use some grub screws with a little thread lock to cover up the extra holes to keep dirt, water, mud, etc. out of the motor.

Since the Tekin motor face is flat it had a problem mounting to the Axial motor mount with the cover piece in the way. So I cut off the edge in the way. Now fits perfectly

Gear Mesh set, make sure you check the entire spur gear mesh to make sure it is all even and smooth all around with no binding but still close as possible.

Servo installed and steering linkages installed. An aluminum servo horn will but used for sure the plastic one is used just for mock up.

Putting everything together!!!

Now for some clear body shots next to my other build the Jeep JK:

I love how the new G6 rig body sits really low stock means a low Center of Gravity!

This picture shown the slight difference in wheelbase, and fender coverage.

Now!!! To the fun part of this build because this is something that's all new to the SCX-10. I spent the most time on this because it is my biggest weakness in this hobby which is masking and painting. Almost 15 coats of paint on this bad boy and I hope you guys all like it.

First thing to do is put the paint cans in hot water to warm them up and let the paint come out of the nozzle without splatter.

Body and windshield cut and starting the masking process.

So here we are Yes the color is RED! It's my favorite color for my rcs so if you don't like it I'm sorry.

Silver is shot for the dash and center console, plus it's used to brighten the red.

Backing Black is used at the end to for the front fenders and to protect the paint with a flat color.

The fenders are too shiny right??? but it's not done yet!!!

Now for more ugly masking.

All done with painting finally!!! I really hate painting.

So now we come to the decal part, I did this while watching Jurassic Park 3 on the TV. Here's a trick I learned when I was kid building Tamiya cars with godly too much decals on the body. Soapy water in a spray bottle, to spray the body to put the decal on. Works like a charm and makes it way more easy to install them especially the big ones. Hobby knife was used to keep finger prints off the sticky side and easier to take off of the sheet with.

After an hour here's what it looks like.

So here it is.

This is as far as I have gotten, I'm no where near done yet because there's are mods, lights, electronics, etc. etc. left to do but I wanted to share as much as I could with you guys. Please feel free to comment and questions as much as you would like.

Not a new one but I'm going to pull one off my women rig since she hasn't used it in almost 2 years.

No, I didn't I hate having weights installed in the wheels especially with a stock drivetrain that's just a recipes for broken parts because of the extra rotational mass.
