| scx-10 width
have some spare time today at work and thought I would start on a trailer. I don't have my truck with me today and was wondering if anybody knows what the overall width of an scx-10 is roughly. just trying to get an idea how wide trailer needs to be. thanks for any help.

The truck is about nine inches wide, so I'd make it about 8", with room for fender flares or 9" with the tires underneath and internal wheel-wells

not sure exactly what your looking for !? It would be best if the trailer had the same track width as yer hauler... so it trails behind your rc well. Measuring, using the original 1.9 Ripshaw tires... an approximate... 8 7/8" to the outside tire surface 5 7/8" to the inside tire surface. ^ would be specific to which tires you run ? as many tires do not share the same dimensions. |

I would've thought to go by the Axle width as one may decide to use different tires at some point but the base axle width stays the same... Not uncommon to see wider tires used on the vehicle compared to the trailer tires. I would just use a stock axle to get proper measurement. Last edited by 6sharky9; 11-23-2013 at 01:12 PM. |

I personally would start by determining the tub/box/frame measurements Likely from a prospective 1:1 trailer... (6'X4' being common for the smaller) then converting that to 1:10 scale (in/mm). Online Scale Converter Tool - Scale Modelers World * note: for an off road trailer that see lots of off road flex... the tongue will likely need be extended somewhat. a rule of thought is... whatever the wheel base of the hauler... the wheel base to the trailer's axle to the hauler's rear axle... should be nearly the same distance. Once the tub/box dimensions are established, then I would look to find/make an axle that duplicates the hauler's axle WMS, ^ and while taking into account the wheel/tire width and wheel offset(BS). Lastly... I would make fenders that cover the tires properly. I have an early M100 I tow with my 1st Gen Tacoma... the M100's track width is less then my Tacoma's. For most wheeling... it's of little issue... and likely even helpful at times. But in mud, snow, slush, sand, etc. the trailer will cause some drag and not track perfectly behind my Tacoma. and so... in my experience... with off road trailers. I feel that the trailer should be set up so that it tracks behind, in the hauler's tire tracks. Thus reducing drag and wander. I'm currently talking with someone whom is going to replicate an MBT/M100 to 1:10 scale. They have one of those fancy plastic printers. It's likely tho', that I will need modify this trailer's axle width to follow in the tracks of my Honcho. But the builder is taking into account the 1.9" ripsaws I roll. So maybe I'll get lucky !? My 1:1 M100 needs a wider axle to track properly in my Tacoma's track. Thing is... I didn't want to alter my M100's originality. Sooo... it's still fubar But that issue hasn't stopped me yet ! |
