Wroncho owners...need your help

I just got a Honcho a little while back and just don't dig the look for it stock. Thinking about doing a wroncho. For those that have done it would you do it again? Is it just Wraith axles and links or is there more to it than that?

All Comes down to what you want.
If you like the look go for it! Nothing worse than a toy you don't like.

Are those axles the same as the Wraith for width? The tires are out farther than I've seen on other Wronchos, Looks awesome!

Re: Wroncho owners...need your help

I am in the middle of doing a wroncho build. It started as a 1.9 tire Jeep Cherokee with Baja Claws. So many people I roll with have new RTR SCX's i wanted one too. Then i decided to make a Wroncho instead and make it the way I want instead of sinking money into a second rig, instead just make one cooler. I dont have any pics and right now Im at work. It started at 12.3 wheelbase. Now the rear axle is one quarter inch further behind the center of the wheel well instead of dead center. The wider stance just makes it look mean though. I bought the new STRC metal links for the new Rubi RTR and rented a tubing bender from Autozone. I flipped the transmission around and bent the upper links the clear the drive shaft. The rear end is complete now I must do the front.
I should have it finished by monday night and i wil get some pics up then.

It would seem as though most of your are using the stock SCX trans mount/skid plate. I watched Harley's build and he used the wraith mount which made the frame rails wider apart.

I liked his build, that's a great way to do it. He probably gets better driveshaft clearance and articulation.

I enjoy mine. Much more stable than the stock scx10 width. Once you figure out how to do them its quite easy. The hardest part for me was the link length. Would I do it again? Yes i would. "thumbsup"

I assume thee not much if anything that's compatible between a scx and a wraith axle? I have Vo knuckles and a Axial C hubs and would be nice to use if possible.

To answer your original question, yes it is pretty much just wraith axles and links. Its a fairly simple project. All your doing is swapping out the wraith tuber chassis for the scx10 frame rails.

1. Remove the wraith skid, links and axles from the wraith chassis.

2. Leave the shocks because you will be using the scx10 shocks instead. Using the wraith shocks makes it way too tall and top heavy.

3. File down the sides and bottom edges of the wraith skid so it fits perfect into the C channels of the scx10 frame rails.

4. Drill new holes in the scx10 frame rails to match the wraith skid mounting holes

5. Mount the wraith skid, links and axles to the scx10 chassis.

6. Using the stock scx10 shock towers, make custom cross members that fit between them, because the wraith axles will interfere with the cross member locations on the frame, so you wont be using those.

7. Mount the electronics, transmission, etc.

8. Make new body mount posts.

Thats pretty much all that needs to be done. I hope this helps. "thumbsup"

Re: Wroncho owners...need your help

I forgot to add my 2 cents :flipoff:
I'm about to do one myself, and I think it is definitely worth doing.
It will preform just as good if not better than a stock scx10 or a stock wraith. It has a much lower COG because it eliminates the whole top heavy wraith chassis.
The only downfall i have found is that not very many bodies will look "scale" like they would with scx10 axles.
Otherwise, its an all around great project and Id say go for it! "thumbsup"

Re: Wroncho owners...need your help

I built mine with the wraith skid. I made crossmembers out of 1/4 inch delryn rod. I also put the supershafty bomb proof trans, 32 pitch gears mamba max pro and roc412. The truck preforms awesome. I have a wraith built real close to harleys bomb proof and liked the way it worked so the the wroncho had to have the same set up. I will post pics as soon as the camera charges. I like the stock honcho for trails but the wroncho is a lot of fun to.
