im wondering if I should upgrade my esc and motor to the holmes hobbies combo. I believe they are on sale for 110 shipped and waterproofed for the weekend. is this upgrade necessary? or should I leave the motor and esc stock and upgrade the links to aluminum? (I have the steering links upgraded to aluminum)

anyone? will I be ok for trailing and crawling in southern California. I wanna run thru some streams and mud but not past the tires.

Yep...Motor/esc over links. The plastic links will get you by for a good while. Plus you'll have one of the biggest upgrades out of the way first.

35T is a good all around motor.

35t at minimum.. I like a 30t. Then you have more gearing options for more torque or wheel speed later..
I ran my HH 35t on 4s (87/16) gearing, then to a HH 16t crawlmaster(same gearing) now a 30t HH Team pro flow. Will still be ran on 4s...

You should be fine. Are you runnng the brxl esc? What batteries? Ive been running 3s 27t on stock gearing for some time now. Ive been happy with the performance thus far. I'm gonna try out one of the HH 35t motors as well just because they are so highly recommended. As far as the esc goes, the brxl is the ONLY esc i will EVER wire up in my crawler/crawlers. Get one if ya haven't already. You wont regret it.

I'm running thunder power 5300mah 65c 2s. I ordered the motor and esc combo. So I can't wait to test it out. Hoping it arrives before I get back home

Sweet. I ran 2s for awhile. Once i ran the brxl on 3s though i haven't looked back. Gave me the wheel speed i'd been wanting. Enjoy your setup.
