the only things i would do are metal steering link kit and upper and lower alloy links if not fitted already then just run it and see what needs done after that

The first things I'd definitely recommend are aluminum lower links, aluminum steering links, putting a 6x10x3 bearing in the servo to replace the plastic bushing, or a metal geared servo at or over 200oz torque.

Driveshafts are a must with any kind of real power.

The brushless will be nice but isn't necessary for the truck's performance. To go along with what old man 52 said, I'd look into MIP or Junfac shafts if you put that 18.5 on the truck, especially if you plan to run 3S LiPo. My stock Axial 27T has plenty of torque and wheel speed on a 2s LiPo. Beadlocks should also be bought soon.

Check out jevne racing or bpc chassis for the better battery tray. Helps keep the weight low. Both work great!

Ditch that junker front bumper for sure, bearing mod to as-3 servo (stated above by rcpilot), upgraded drive shafts (Junfac/MIP), look into an CC BEC. Other than that, check our radioshack for a small electronics project box and start getting crafty!

Anyone have a recommendation for upgraded steering links? The only ones I've seen is the $120 vanquish kit!

Honestly its such a great truck all you need and for cheap is blue monkey links and steering links and i would go with a vanquish cms kit and a front 4 link truss and you will be more than happy! Mine is a little more modified and i out performs almost any $3000 rig.

At minimum lower suspension links and steering links.

Unless you want to deal with the stock servo going out on you pretty quickly due to it only having bushing then i recommend a slight upgrade to maybe an Hitec MG645

If you still have stock gearing and motor...try a 16T motor pinion.

youll determine if you want more or not when you get used to the truck..see what you end up breaking based on how you drive it and go from there.
but this a pretty decent start..youll love the 16T gearing even with a stock motor over the stock 20 tooth..will be slightly slower but a lot more controllable.

The rtr comes with all plastic links? For steering all you need is an axial 106mm link for like $5 and some rod ends. Suspension link, make them from 8/32 threaded rod. 3ft piece is like a buck or two. Add some revo rod ends for $8 and you're golden.

Never mind all that I guess. I noticed you spent probably $100 or so on vp links instead.
