Default I need some help (stripped set screw)

I am trying to install a set of MIP shafts on my scx10 since the plastic ones do not hold upto lipo and brushless power. I have the front shaft on but the rear has 2 stripped set screws one on the tranny and one on the axle. How can I get them out I've tried drilling and that's not even working and I do not wait to mess up the shaft the driveshafts mount to. Here is what I am working with.

Two possible options I can think of.

If you are going to continue drilling, use a smaller drill bit to only drill out the center of the set screw. This will relieve some tension. WD40, liquid wrench or similar to help break it loose.

Another option would be to use a dremel cut off wheel to cut a groove so you can get a small standard screwdriver on it (if the screw is not below the level of the output yoke). This is assuming you are not trying to keep the the stock driveshaft yoke.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advise I am not trying to keep the wb8 yokes since the MIP ones are much beefier

I recently tried using the dermal to do that on a drive shaft, it ended up fusing the metal together and had no choice but to cut off the output shaft along with the drive shaft.

EZ-out

* also referred to as "screw/bolt extractors"

Just choose one of the appropriate diameter to fit the hole.

and turn it counter clock-wise and it'll come out.

well... since yer into drilling chit

Tomorrow I am going to buy a easy out to use on the screw on the yoke on the axle !

As for the other screws, I noticed when I drill it the bugger seem's to be fusing itself together. I took off the Tranny and opened up the case ground out the hole around the output shaft and slipped it off. I ordered the RRP output drive gear to match the other RRP gears in the tranny, and some new bearings for the output. I'll just need to order a new tranny case. I'll probably go a Aluminum case .

Thanks for the help guys, I can not wait to get this thing running again with the new running gear.

Ok, sounds crazy but I've done this before, if you have a tiny flat head screw driver, a hammer and another person to help, try tapping on the screw driver with a hammer while turning it at the same time. Takes two people but sometimes as a last option it may work. All you need is to find an edge for the screwdriver to catch and a little shock from the hammer to hopefully break it loose. The other way I've used is tapping on the screw sideways with a very small sharp punch, maybe sharpen a small finish nail if you don't have a punch set. It's a tiny screw and it takes some time to get it figured out but I have done both and had success. Unfortunate it's suck a small area but hopefully something works for you!

I would call that yoke a loss and cut it off with a dremel. A couple cuts with a dremel cutoff wheel and a nut splitter and that yoke will pop right off.

Next time use a soldering iron to melt the locktite BEFORE you strip the screw.

I had a similar situation and wound up having to cut off the output and upgrade to a one piece robinson output.

Today I found a new axle off a honcho a guy was parting out (he went with wraith axles) so I bought it for 20.00 which was cheaper then a good extractor set I may use the axle on my Mrc and pick up a front axle to restart the ltrail Mrc scaler project
