| Pan hard and CMS Questions (ASAP)
I've got a few questions and wondering if you guys could answer them! Okay first what is a pan hard bar and what purpose does it serve? Pictures? Also what is the Purpose of a cms other than looks? Does it make your servo work harder being at the angle it will be at? Or does it somehow take some strain off of your servo? Thanks everyone and happy new year! -Tyler |

A panhard bar keeps the axle located side to side. The CMS is for scale appearance and function in concert with the panhard there should be little to no bump steer.

One more question when the truck flexes is the bar going from the servo to the steering linkage going to bind from trying to lay down or when at full compression will it turn the wheels one way or another. You get what I'm asking?

And is a pan hard absolutely necessary? I have a 4 link and have almost no side to side axle movement.

You are describing what is referred to as bump steer. In a perfect world the pan hard and drag link will be the same length and will have mounting points in line with each other with the wheels pointed straight. If everything lines up perfectly there will be no bump steer. We do not live in a perfect world however so unless you fabricate your own mounts there will be a bit of bump steer but nothing outrageous. If you have a chassis mounted servo yes a pan hard is required to keep bump steer at bay. A triangulated 4 link travels in a straight line up and down. If the servo is on the chassis there will be a lot of bump steer since the drag link will be moving in an arc side to side. Last edited by WHITE-TRASH; 01-04-2014 at 11:35 AM. |

Not real sure how the panhard bar and the drag link could be the same length, but I've always heard that they should be the same angle. I doubt this is perfect but it seems to work pretty well: Compressed: |

On 1:1 rigs it is normal to have them travel on the same arc with the same length, angle etc. It's a bit harder to do on a 1:10 scale though.

Don't for get when you go to the panhard setup you switch from a 4 link front to a 3 link.
