Default Project Heavy Metal SCX10 w/o any Axial parts

I wish I was a forum member before I built my SCX10 so that I could have done the build with you guys, but I wasn't so I will just show you what I ended up building. I recently took my SCX10 to a LHS and the feller behind the counter was amazed with it. I live far out in the country so there's not a lot of folks around here to see it, nor are there groups to run with. A buddy of mine that is on this forum said I should post my build and get feedback from you guys.

So, I have been into RC for many many years, I took about a 10 year hiatus and then recently rejoined the trailing, rock crawling ranks. I started back up with an RTR Wraith, and beat the crap out of it. With all of my readings online and forum cruising I found that I needed an SCX10. Then realized that it seemed as though that everyone on the planet owned one. So I began to devise a plan to custom build an SCX10 platformed rc with some restrictions:

1 - Must not look like every other SCX cookie cutter truck
2 - Wanted to avoid actually using any Axial parts. (this is going to be tough)
3 - MUST BE TOUGH!
4 - Needed to be fast AND slow

So I began by buying parts, here is the list that I ended up getting

Full Chassis, Axles (will all aluminum C-Hub, chubs, etc), braces, all CNC'd parts. Bought the entire thing from eBay
Fully metal/aluminum transmission
All aluminum shocks functioning overflow reservoir
Custom length titanium Links
Dynamite brushless sensored 4800kv motor/esc set up
Billet Spur gear
RC4WD metal tube bed
RC4WD Full Cell (electronics)
Proline F-250 Body
Integy electronics box
Integy front bumper
RC4WD Bulldog winch
Aluminum ProTek Servo
Vanquish Lockers
Metal Long slip f/r Drivelines

There was a ton of small fabricated aluminum plates that had to be built. Along with custom cut links. I had a feeling that I would have a few challenges present themselves to me but did not expect that as many as I ended up having. All in all I do love it. It weighs a ton, and hauls ass for such a big heavy truck. The first OD green body in the pictures didn't even make it through the first test drive. I learned real quick that stuff this heavy going this fast stops with a LOT of impact. But hey that's what we build them for. I entered it into a scaler comp and brought home 2nd place, so I guess its going what it was built to do.

Thanks for reading, let me know what you guys think.

Now I am sure that some of you sharp eye'd fellas will notice that I didn't succeed 100% of not utilizing any Axial parts. The black wheels are in fact off of an RTR Axial.

But wait, I too have a cure for that. I have these rims for it, they are 1.9's I am just trying to find a big enough set of 1.9 tires to keep the look right. What are the biggest and widest set of 1.9's on the market right now anyway?

Hello all, I see that this post already has several hundred views already, man this is a busy forum. But I would really like to get opinions on what you guys thing I should buy for 1.9 sized tires. I'll take all opinions and end up buying the most voted one.

Thanks again!

Pro-line tsl sx super swamper xl is probably one of the tallest 1.9 tires on the market right now

Rc4wd Mickey Thompson Baja claws TTC and Proline Swamper XL's are the two talest 1.9's. Both measure 4.7x1.75

Good to hear. I actually have a set of the Mickey Thompson TTC's on my Wraith and those tires are wicked awesome in both performance and appearance. I wish the 2.2 tires that are on it now would fit the new rims because they work perfectly for that truck. Will all of the custom links, shocks, and other fitment issues, I think I need to stick with a good fat tallerish tire.

I wonder if I extended the axle width a little if that would help the looks with some 1.9 tires???

That's a pretty sweet build, what's the center of gravity like on it? I'm assuming pretty good since you got 2nd in the competition.

The RC4WD Interco boggers are also 4.7. They arent the best tire for "rock" crawling but, they do damn good in loose terrain. The compound is just a little hard.

Thank you. The COG is actually not too bad, I would have figured it was going to be horrible but it honestly preforms rather well. I did all that I could do to keep everything as low as possible. The shocks preloads are dialed all the way to the top, and I clipped one rung of the spring out.

Isn't there a way to actually measure the COG? Does anyone know how to do it?

The guys in the XR10 room are talking about doing cut and shut tires, that could be the way to get the right sized 1.9's. Has anybody made these, and ran them on the trails before? I wonder if they would hold up to 9 lbs of truck with a brushless power plant?

What size tire do you think you need on this to fill the wheel well? What size are the tires on it?
Not only did the pitbull mad beasts just come out in 4.75" height, they are also doing the 4.75" Growlers.(next to hit the market) could be well worth the wait! Its all I run on my scale rigs.. 1.55,1.9, as well as 2.2.
If it was the days of the 6lb crawlers, I would run a set of the RB2'S on my comp rig!

The 2.2's that are on it now measure in at 4.75" x 2" So I think the mad beasts would be EXACTLY what I need!! Anyone know how wide those are? I have a set of Rock Beast II 2.2 that I run on my XR10 I love how they look and perform.
