need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow I now have a completely stock axial scx10 honcho. Can i drive it into te snow? Stock servo nothing waterproofed. Pls help tomorrow i go to Germany and I will take it with me if it can go in the snow without a problem if not then I will have to miss it for a week |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow Not without balloons or something for the electronics, at least. |

Il take some baloons with me. Tips for tools I must take with me? Sorry but this is my first real rc (not nikko: one part broken trow away car). |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow The electronics box is not waterproof. The ESC is highly exposed and not, either. The servo might be alright as long as no moisture gets inside it. 1.5mm, 2mm and 2.5mm hex tools and a T-tool (comes with all SCXs) is all you really need. |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow 3 Attachment(s) the electronics box is water resistant-not water proof, however that being said, I run my scx rubicon in the snow all the time with the stock electronics and have zero issue with it. Snow packs up around it but nothing is hurt by it. My experience is it will be fine, worse than has happened to mine is a few slightly rusty screw heads.. |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow probably get away with it if... the snow and ambient temps are very cold and maintain that freeze. if the accumulated snow is brushed away, before allowing it to melt off the chassis or it's components it may help. but if the snow is melting... or any melt off has become apparent... I'd recommend water proofing everything first before running in a high moisture environment. The original servo will be the first thing to fail for sure... if not waterproofed. But it could also fail because of the craplastic bushings(X2) supporting the servo's output shaft. |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow I just let mine melt off, I dont wipe anything down...I set it on a bath towel and let it dry...no problems... |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow I have ran mine several times in the snow with no problems. I brush off the loose snow and call it good. I would go playing in slush or really wet snow tho. |

I think I am going to waterproof it with balloons and tyraps (or however you write it) [EDIT:] I also have this winch, just let it sit on the front? Or take it of? And how about the little electronic thingy thats on that cable? https://www.tcscrawlers.com/3racing-...ac-cr0127.html |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow 2 Attachment(s) here ya go, as far as the winch, mine is the newest warn 9.5CTI Remote control winch. No issues at all with the snow, even building up on it..no problems. the only difference right now is that I laid the batteries down flat on my rock sliders instead of on the edges as in the pics. everything else is still the same I dont know about your winch, just look and see if it has obvious openings where snow/water might easily get in, if in doubt, remove it.. I put a rc4wd chassis mounted servo kit on mine to keep the servo out of the debris/snow/water...my servo is the stock servo without any modifications. so far I have not had any issues with it... |

About the battery, just connect and make extra sure it is connected very good. So no space left for any water to get inside. I have the white (tamiya i believe) plugs on my battery. |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow I would probably use some di-electic grease to fill the cavities on a tamiya connector, or switch the connector to a deans connector.. |

And about the lights? I guess that they should not give any trouble. But not sure |
Re: need help with an Axial SCX10 Honcho in snow I live in ohio where we have had the most snow fall ever. I have been having a blast with my wraith in the snow. It has not been water proofed at all. Running a jr8711 servo, a stock axial brushed speed control, and a hand wound holmes hobbies 20 turn motor on a 2 s lipo. Oh , my battery is waterproof, it is a max amps. I just run it the snow packs in the wheel wells and when I'm done I set it on towels. I disconnect the battery, turn the on /off switch off. Then turn the radio off. Like Allanon1965 said just run it. But be forewarned you cold burn stuff up. P. s. I do have deans connectors on the battery. And the electronics box is mounted up front and is a scx10 model not sealed, but closed. |
