Default Battery Holder on front Axle

My buddy said I should share my latest little SCX10 project. I really wanted to get my battery weight off the frame and keep it up front. So I made myself a little aluminum battery holder that mounts directly to the front axle and sits just above the servo.

In order for this to work, besides making the holder, I had to remove all the cross braces in the front of the vehicle. Fortunately, I am using a steel RC4WD bumper which is providing the rigidity that I am losing by removing the cross braces.

And here is a nice little picture to show how well the setup has worked.

Sweet! Think about putting a cross-brace above the batt between the shock hoops. That will help a little.

Unfortunately, that is not an option with this approach. On maximum compression the battery is just 2mm shy of hitting the body. This means its well above where the brace would need to go.

Don't really have any issues with flex though, so not too worried.

By the way, I used the really heavy duty 3M tape to affix the holder to the bottom of the servo plate. Then it also gets sandwiched between the servo plate and my Level3 upper link mounts which keeps it secure.
