Poor steering radius?

What mods do i need in order to get a big difference in steering radius? CVD's? Knuckles? Both? Any dremel mods possible?

If you toe the tires out it helps out and the best part is that it's free!

Re: Poor steering radius?

if ur axles are clocked then get clockable c hubs with high steer knuckles and cvds

There are a few things one can do...
opening up the cups to allow more bone travel
od/ud gearing
High steer knuckles+cvd's+od/ud gearing
xr10 chubs/knuckles+xr10 universals+od/ud gearing

Plenty of combo's and mods available "thumbsup"

Re: Poor steering radius?

XR conversion and overdrive front gears and under drive rear. That will give you a damned nice turning radius.

Gonna be looking to do one of these mods to mine.

Re: Poor steering radius?

For now you can pull out the screws on the front side of your c hubs and put in set screws. It's not much but it should help a little.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Im curious now, what all is involved in the xr10 front end conversion? Will the chubs fit the stock scx10 axle?

Yup the c hubs slide right on. You'll have to remove the raised portion on the front and rear of the housing where the stock c hubs screws were but otherwise its a bolt on. The xr axles will need to be shortened up a bit since they are a bit long for this application as well. I'd also recommend some sort of beef tube so you have more meat for the screws holding the c hubs on to grab onto. I made my own out of 1/8" galvanized pipe.

Re: Poor steering radius?

So stock c hubs, knuckles and axles from xr10. What about bearings?

WHITE-TRASH 03-02-2014 02:19 PM

Re: Poor steering radius?

Wheel bearings are all the same so no worries there.

TrimbleTractor 03-02-2014 06:23 PM

So chubs, knucks, beef tube and axles is all i will need? Along with some rc skill? :lmao:

And which will give me more steering, XR10 mod or aftermarket knuckles with cvds? Sounds like the XR mod will be the winner on that, but just wanted to be sure. I like steering a LOT.

Is there a cvd axle that will work with this mod? If so, what would you recommend?

Im sorry for asking all these dumb questions, but i dont have a lot of time to figure it out on my own and want this Jeep to turn a LOT!! 8)

Re: Poor steering radius?

Yes the XR conversion will give you more steering than anything currently available for the ax/scx axle. Vanquish makes cvd's for the XR but they don't steer as tight as axial universals.

You sound like me. I had axial high steer knucks with axial universals. I had the servo end points too far for what the scx 10 universals could handle, because I NEEDED a lot of steering. I really was never impressed with the steering angle anyway. So finally the universals broke and I did the xr 10 mod. I am happy now, it turns like crazy. IMO after having done all the stock scx10 steering upgrades, the xr10 mod is the only one worth doing.

Re: Poor steering radius?

I have the XR mod on 4 of my 5 rigs and love it. Seriously improved steering. If you go with stock/plastic wraith/xr10 knuckles/chubs its pretty cheap but if you go VP parts then you're breaking $100 easily per rig.

$100 for VP parts, $20 for beef tubes, $35 for Axial xr10 universals.

Or you can get some super 300 universals/cvds + VP 8* CHUBs/Knuckles that give a ridiculous amount of steering as well, granted it a little more $$$ but no modifications really needed. Stole these from http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...rebirth-2.html

WOW!! Thats insane right there! Ok well i have the chubs, knuckles, and xr universals in my cart ready to order. Now as far as beef tubes go, does anyone have any links or stores that sell what i need?

801RYAN 03-03-2014 01:10 PM

you don't want xr universal you want wraith ones

I used xr10 universals. I read that wraith universals are too short on the short side.

TrimbleTractor 03-03-2014 01:31 PM

Re: Poor steering radius?

Wraith has offset pumpkin so wouldnt one axle be real long and the other short?

801RYAN 03-03-2014 01:57 PM

Crap yeah I'm a dumb ass sorry for the misinformation. I got it mixed up
