Default Scx10 front diff help

So, after buying back my scx10 that I sold to a friend I have had to do a ton of work on it. But yesterday I rebuilt the axles and the rear one turned out great but my front I'm getting a little chatter. I did upgrade to the HD ring and pinion and wonder if I just wasn't generous enough with the gear lube? I have been searching but the only info I can find is for a wraith. Could anyone offer a suggestion or maybe just let me know if I need to get in there and add more grease? thank you

How does it feel? If it feels notchy like you can feel each tooth making contact you're too tight. If it's got too much slop it'll make noise too. If you think you didn't grease it enough then open it up and fix the issue.

I like to make sure the gears have a nice coating of grease on the wear surfaces. A little more than that is fine. There are shims made for a traxxas application that work great. They are about 8mm OD and 5mm ID made of teflon. If the pinion has slop while turning odds are you need a shim or two behind the head of the pinion to move the gears closer together.

While you're in there changing the idler gear in the trans out for a metal version is more important than the lower gear since the idler takes more abuse and is more prone to stripping the teeth off.

ya I thought about just going full metal in the tranny. plus it will add some weight. I know its harder on parts but I didn't like how bouncy it was stock so I am trying to make it a little heavier so it might drive a little more scale

The weight is minimal, heck I'm running a RR steel idler on a RR aluminum diff gear on one rig with great results. The other two have RR steel idlers and one piece lower gears. It's all about durability to me. My junk is all severely abused so strength is key.
