Default Project SCX Dually

Started the next build with a Honcho roller and a narrowed Axial SCX10 axle, relocated the rear springs with the Level3 shock mount for inner tire clearance. Still working some details out, more pics to come...

Nice build, that body looks like it sits a little high but thats no big deal. Keep up the good work, can't wait too see that body painted.lol. I see that your running tamiya battery connectors on there, I advise you to change over to deans or traxxas. Over time those tamiya plugs will be terrible (from experiance). - axial 4x4 crawler

Looks sweet! any advantage to running the dually? As far as prosd vs cons: I realize more traction but does it lmit flex or agility etc..?

Just getting back to mock up right now (I had it set aside to finish my Unimog, pics in that area of this forum), the connectors will definitely be on the way out. I'll post some flex pics (the body sits high to clear the max flex) and the axle cut down when I break it down tonight. I'm going to be re-doing the axle shafts as there is a little play in there now (Losi parts). Need to break out the micrometer for some measurements, so back apart it goes...

so u just cut the lockout down and trimmed shaft up? and im assuming u ran the stock bearing in the factory location just inside the lockout? looks good so far.

I've done it by cut the ears off a set of front c's, than fit the end with a washer to keep the bearing in and just measure and cut the axle. Its really very easy to do.

First off, the Big boy GMC Pick up is badass. How exactly did you attach the dual wheels in the rear end!? And shortening the axle came out great i definitely understand how to shorten the plastic housing but did you cut the actual axle down and then rethread the end? or did you cut the other end and then re-stamp the end into a square shape?? so many questions! lol my bad im just super curious

You cut the gear end of the axle then just put two flat spots back on it.

The idea was not mine, I search the web and found someone who already did it. The original axle is cut just just outside of the hole where the extenders get screwed into the axle. He then used Losi mini crawler shafts (dog bone style and output shaft, this is the weak point), Losi mini crawler hubs (and pin) and Losi mini crawler bearing just inside the axle ends. It works ok but there is a little play/slack, I'm going to go back and mod the mod to fit the original shafts (one piece) cut down and use the larger bearings that fit inside the axle better. The outside tire is attached with some couplers and grub type bolts (its all metric), had to order online as I couldn't find this metric size stuff local (had to order it in bulk $$, I have some to share for a couple of bucks and postage). Doing this way narrows the axle 2" overall and brings that outside wheel closer to a dually look. The tires are slightly offset so the pattern fit into each other, tightened at the axle (with regular lock nut) and you have full contact between the tires around the perimeter.

Great job, the narrowed axle really looks good under the body.

I've re-done the axles shaft to cut down 1 piece Axial shafts and the play/wobble is gone...

Here is some more of it close to finish...

The cab lights are from the Toyata Tundra, it tools 2 parts trees, but you'll have the option to do clear or yellow lens with chrome bases. I'll post which trees, gotta dig up the bags from the spares box. The trees also have chrome running boards which will be the next addition.
