Default Never had a kit, getting a SCX10. Questions though.

I've been a Wraith owner about a year now and absolutely love it. Might be my favorite truck of the 12-15 I've owned over the years. My thing is though, I've never bought a kit new. I've pieced together trucks from scratch but never had a new in box kit.

So.... I'm buying a SCX10 kit. BUT, I've mostly been into monster trucks and onroad and don't know much of Axial outside of the Wraith. What are the differences?

Theres the Wrangler G6, Rubicon and Dingo (that I see on Axialracing.com).

Does one have more or better things than the other? I like the Jeep bodies so I think the Dingo is out for me, but what of the other two?

Thanks for the tips!

I know the dingo is like 11 inch wheel base the g6 has a 12 inch wheel base and the jk has a 12.3 inch wheel base but other than that I think they are the same thing. It's pretty much just a body preference.

All the kits are nice. Wheel base is the major difference. Have patience with the kit too. The instructions are not the greatest. Coming from building race kits, I was spoiled with the manuals. Have a large area to lay things out as you will be going back and forth between parts trees.

Well that makes sense. I wouldn't have even though to look at size differences. Thanks for that!

Good to know. I think I'm set on the Rubicon. Just going to wait for the next big coupon to come along or I'm going to my LHS.

Thanks for the info guys.

Also when the instructions say "Open bag A and put this together", if there are any plastic parts, you will have to dig through the bags of plastic parts and find the piece. I just built the 2012 Rubicon kit, took about 8 total hours from start to finish. And also when you put the suspension together, move the axles up and down to see how the articulation is, I had to modify my upper link in the front to get proper articulation.

When you say 2012 Rubicon, are you just referring to when it was manufactured or boxed, like a 1:1 car or is there different kits all together of the Rubicon?

8 hours would be a couple days for me, with kids running around and all. Thats about exactly as I had hoped.

Go with a honcho, unlimited or g6. Everyone who has a dingo usually ends up stretching the wheelbase myself included I went from a 11.3" wheelbase dingo to 12.5"

throw your Wraith axles on that scx10

or whatever, I'd link you to a thread about it if I could remember where I saw it... one of the wroncho build threads, I think

What does that change or make better?

the Wraith has wider axles giving your SCX10 a wider stance (more stability). Some complain it takes away from the scale looks though.

I bought the dingo kit because I planned on putting a TF2 body on since it has an 11.5" wheelbase. Also, it's $50 cheaper which leaves you with a little more cash for components and/or bodies. I ended up buying a lexan HPI bronco body (11.3" wheelbase) for something a little more durable than the tf2.

If you are just wanting to build a kit and keep it stock, go with the G6 or Unlimited.

Thanks crawlspace, I don't plan on keeping it all stock but I do plan on doing bolt on upgrades. Aluminum parts and so on. No plans on the Axle swaps or anything like that.

Cool - what are you building it for? I bought my dingo kit with the plan to compete as class 1 sorcca legal scaler. Since all the scx10 kits are default class 2 due to the tire size, I budgeted for new wheels and tires from the get-go; the price difference between the dingo kit and the others easily paid for my set of growlers.

Just to play. I don't plan on doing any comps but I have been out to the comps just to watch and crawl around. Just have the itch and never had anything more scale then the Wraith.

Only c1 truck I have had was a tf2. The 1.55 wheels are very limited in ground clearance. Be prepared to pick your lines very cautiously. following your buddies in c2 and c33 riigs will be quite tough. Might want to invest in a winch for sure. Sand ladders certianly wouldnt hurt.

Good luck with your build. Take your time and enjoy.
