Default 2.2 Tires and Motor/Pinion

hey guys i have some axial rock lizard tires on my SCX10 right now.
They are a little over 5" tall. I have stock electronics and motor.

My question is, what should i change to accommodate the 2.2 tires?

Change the pinion gear? or change to a 55T axial motor and leave the 20T pinion gear?

Thanks, other options are welcomed

I'm assuming your gearing is stock, too?

Pick up a good handful on pinions, 10T-16T. Just keep an eye on your motor and ESC temps.

So it's better to just change out the opinions instead of changing to a 55t motor?

Do you have a 27turn or 20turn motor?
Either way, it's do as suggested, pick up some motor pinions from 10t-16t and try them out. If you put in a 55turn motor, you'll want to upgrade your battery to a 3cell Lipo, but then you'll need new electronics.

If you have a 20 or 27 turn in there now a 55t will really slow things down and gear you more towards just having just a crawler. I would try some different gearing first.

48p which means 48 pitch...That' the size and angle of the teeth on the gears. If you still have all stock gearing you have a 87T spur gear. So a 15t or 16t pinion are probably going to be in the sweet spot.IMO....I'd say 16t. but that's me.A 16t's ratio will give you an ok speed with good torque to get those big tires moving.. Someone else may have another idea though.

Running 2.2 TSL's, Axial 55t motor w/ 20t pinion. Decent speed and climbs really well with tons of torque. Ran 27t motor with 14t pinion and it was pretty good, way more torque with the new motor though.

For my daughter waith i changed the spur to 87 and the pinion to 14 with the stock motor and it has lasted over three years. I also put MT Claws on her rig which are 5.75 inches tall.

Spur Larger for slower speeds, Smaller for for faster speeds.

Pinion Larger for faster speeds, Smaller for slower speeds.
