| proline power stroke scaler shocks compared to icons?
Are the proline shocks really any better than the newer Axial Icon shocks? Are there any performance advantages over the Axial Icon's that would warrant a purchase? |

Proline shocks are very nice and smooth compare to the stock ones on the axial brands. I just upgrade my rig with them but I had not try them yet.

Thanks very much for your reply iFrog By stock are you referring to the plastic bodied shocks? I am asking for comparisons between the aluminium bodied and new pistoned Icon's vs. The proline's.... |

I upgraded to the pro lines because the icons wouldn't stop leaking. I rebuilt a couple times and just gave up and ordered pro lines. Installed them and noticed one was leaking. The plastic piece in between the rubber rings was cut poorly and damaged an o-ring. I called pro-line and they are sending me a rebuild kit for free. But running over some rocks in the basement, they do feel softer than the stock icons and smoother. The look better too IMO. Plus with the extra included ends, you can increase the length to 95mm. I sure others have more in-depth opinions than me, but thought I would share my views...

I've got both, the Prolines seem to have a better fit and finish. Now if the reservoirs were real I might like the Icons more. ;)

prolines are better but they still leak, i had to rebuild it a few times and ended up going with gmade and haven't had issues with them. I run gmade on both scx and wraith ..

Thanks for all your feedback. I really appreciate it. I'll just wait for my icon's to leak and fail and then upgrade to the proline's. cheers ;) |

Are the stock springs that come with the prolines soft enough or the same rates as the stock axial springs? I see that you can run dual stage and single springs with the prolines. ...which of the two is the most popular and why? |

Icons is just the same sh** as the regular plastic shocks. Aluminium body doesn't provide anything besides looks.. I've got plastic, aluminium and Icons. Don't like any of them. They leak, they are sloppy and generally feels very cheap. Do not perform well at all.

I have a few sets of Prolines on my rigs. I use the dual-stage system but my rigs are all on the heavy side so I use the Axial replacement dual-stage springs. They fit good and you can tune the rig to your liking. They have four different rates of uppers and lowers. The Proline springs are too soft for what I use them on.

I put the prolines on and notice an immediate difference over the stock shocks.. very smooth movement and articulation. ZERO leaking.

Must agree with above: - Axial: crappy... - Proline: really great (not scale ones) - G made: even better - Tekno sct410 shocks: best and also overkill |

Not sure why so many people have issues with the stock plastic shocks. I've had very good luck with them. They leak after a bunch of use but they all do. The Proline Powerstrokes are nice but if you've removed the rubber up travel limiter on the stockers, the Powerstrokes will have less travel. The Icons have a machined piston which is nice. The aluminum Icon bodies leak before much use. I have replaced a set of plastic bodies with STRC aluminum bodies and I'm very impressed with them. In fact I just ordered 4 more pairs of them to upgrade 2 other rigs.

The plastic shocks and components are poorly molded at best, they leak from day one mainly due to the flash/seams on the bodies left behind from the molding process. The aluminum bodies seem to seal just fine and the plastic bodies can be filed/sanded to function, but that doesn't make up for the fact they're only 7mm bore and the pistons provide very little dampening. I went with Associated 10mm bore V2 1.32" stoke Team shocks on the SCX10 due to the numerous spring and piston options available and the fact they're very well made with high quality o-rings.
