Motor Hot. OD/UD I recently installed a Tamiya J motor 27T in my Honcho. Ran a 3S pack the first run. Went through some pretty dirty water. It still worked but crackled and popped a few times. Then played in the snow for a bit. Next pack was a 2S with OD/UD gears. Took it up some rocks and loose dirt. The motor stalled a few times and took a bit more throttle input than I am use to. The motor was piping hot and you could smell it. I let it cool down, no more than 10 minutes on the rocks and the motor is too hot to touch. Is this motor inadequate for my needs? Or are the gears causing the heat. My previous motor was a Axial 55T before that a Tekin 35T. |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD I think the od/ud gears fighting each other are creating the heat...its a known issue with this setup..what spur/pinion gears are you using? |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD Stock spur and pinion. |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD I would say if you are going to use the od/ud you are gonna need to get the spur/pinion ratio around 5.5 or so to make it less work on the tamiya motor... |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD 14-16t pinion pretty close? |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD Did you clean out the motor after running through dirty water? If not, there is your answer. The gears add a little stress but shouldn't heat up a motor that fast. |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD I have been running OD/UD's in both of my rigs for ages and they did not heat up my motor ever. |
Re: Motor Hot. OD/UD I don't think od/ud fight each other enough to make a difference... |
