Brazing metal
 

Hey guys I want to make my own custom roll cage bed for my honcho.
I've done some research but want to make sure I'm getting this right.

So first I need metal from local metal shop. How thick should I get it? Solid or hollow?

Also I need a propane torch right? Any will work?

Lastly I need brazing rod? What kind and what size?

My best advise is to do what I did; I learned a lot by just using the search bar here, or google.
I did a lot of searching through google

Ex: I googled " brazing rccrawler" Then all the brazing threads on Rc crawler ( here) will usually show up at the top of the list, then you can browse other peoples builds , see what they have done, how they have done it and most have bunches of pictures...
I like to see pictures rather than words lol

But to short answer your questions

3/16 brake line is real popular
And Harris safety silver solder is a popular choice

And you will want to look into mapp gas instead of propane.
Propane can be used but mapp is better

^ those 3 items will be your best bet IMO

Searching and seeing others opinions that have used it a lot more than me will help you further. I don't braze much, but there are plenty people here who braze a lot.. I'm sure they will chime in , if not you will find them if you take that little google tip I mentioned at the beginning of the post

Don't forget flux. Also, it turns out brazing is the easy part - measuring, setup, cleaning before and after are more time-consuming, and you'll need tools and material for all of that. For example, you'll need something to hold your material in place for brazing, either magnets or clamps or what have you; you need to clean up the joints before and after brazing; you'll need to bend and/or cut material; etc etc. As 1r3land said, search is your friend.

I'm rookie with big dreams.Want to try this too. Found a pipe bender at harbor freight for less than $10. Local auto zone has brake line on the cheap too. I've been talking to Mcrawlinslow / KRB Kustoms. look him up. GOOD stuff great price and super knowledgeable"thumbsup"
