hi all well when i go to try to climb something a bit steep it just starts to get bouncy then flips back or if its a steep hill or dry dirt it just gets bogged to easy i run.... hh 35t, brxl, hitec 645mg, rrp gears in gearbox, 16t/87t gears over drive in front axle, Marine grease in the axles and gearbox, 90mm axial shocks with 40wt oil, alloy links, axial beadlocks with 1.9 rox lox and each wheel has 150 grams all up! 80 grams on the rock sliders each side the foams are rc4wd foams, drive shafts have metal inside been good for 2 years any help would be great thanks! |

Have you tried lighter shock oil? 40wt seems heavy, to me.

I run very little oil, and its not shock oil its marvel air tool oil. I also flipped the stock springs, so the short soft one is on the bottom. Mine will bounce and hop but if you ease out of the throttle you shouldnt have an issue. But if the foams and tires are too stiff youll get bounce too, just like a 1:1 if the air psi is too high youll bounce and lose traction. Do you have any weight in the rear? Such as a spare tire? What kind a tires are you running? Tires can make a BIG difference. I noticed a big change when I went from stock treps to Pitbull Rockbeasts. Was able to climb lines I couldn't with the treps. Also a good set of foams can help too. Look into foams from Crawler Innovations. Eddie at CI can help you get the right foam for whatever tire you are running.

Axial's rear 4 link geometry is wrong. That's why you're getting a lot of hop and, eventually flip over on your lid. 3/4 Link for Dummies |

Have you mirrored the tranny? Also, is the battery mounted up front? |

Do you have any weights in the front wheels?

Does nobody read? He listed his tires and that he has weight in the front. A weak nimh battery or a 2s lipo wont have too much wheel speed with a 35t. A 3s will give you more wheel speed and can actually lessen the hop. More power too obviously. How tall is your rig?

| Re: scx10 trouble climbing You'll break stuff on 2s too, it's all about how your drive and where you drive. I was running my 35t on 2s and would get lots of hop on dirt inclines. I couldnt get my tires spinning very fast and it would dig, then catch and bounce the rig. As soon as I volted up to 3s I got my speed back and the tires dug as opposed to hop. You may try a 27t motor instead of the 35t and see if that helps. Your gearing is also a little low with a 5.43 ratio. From the factory it comes with a 4.35 ratio. Adjust you pinion to an 18t or 20t if you have some and see if that helps. You will be fine with the 16t if you go 35t and 3s.

A 2s on a quality 27T is more than enough wheel speed (less low speed control) but as much wheel speed as a 3s on a 35T. ( I personally use a 27T with 87/16 gears on a 2s) I don't recommend running no oil at all as one posted earlier..At minimum use a 10WT oil and see how that works out for you. If you Don't want to deal with oil then get those bouncy spring loaded "Scale" shocks Theres more to the bouncing and up hill performance than just your shocks alone...Your 4 link set up also determines how it climbs. When you travel up hill slow or not slow you're transferring the weight to the rear of the truck giving the rear more traction than the front...When the rear gets traction 2 things happen. 1.) The rear squats (more traction) 2.) the front lifts (much less traction here) So either you had enough of a grip on the rear to lift the front and cause it to flip or its going to bounce on the rear. Rear Anti squat brackets will help a little bit to keep the rear from squatting down as much and keep more traction to the front. I made my own brackets but you can find some on here from vendors if you search. Front to rear gearing ratio Proper pinion angle Tire and foam selection. Weight distribution and balance Driving style, the line you take, and throttle control also major factors Another factor is being realistic on what obstacles you take for the little truck..May seem odd an rc can do more than a real truck without safety risk and breakage but even they have realistic performance parameters for their size If this hill is full of rocks or holes or big bumps then you may not have a problem with the truck at all and are just pushing it beyond its limits. Its not hard to have a well rounded trail truck that exceeds stock performance in all aspects but, keep realistic parameters in mind. Last edited by 6sharky9; 03-31-2014 at 01:51 PM. |

While I'll never agree with sharky in the cell debate, I do agree that you'll only get more bounce if you run no oil. Oil is for dampening, if you don't want any dampening and just want springy, be ready to bounce a lot and by all means take out the oil. I run 40 wt minimum in my shocks depending on the terrain. |

Sharky is right, staying with the 2s you should try a 27t motor. You will get increased wheelspeed which will help with the slow bogging and the hop a bit. No reason not to go with a 3s though. It was a night and day difference in my rig. Agree on the shock oil. You want the oil to help dampen the load put onto the shock. Without oil you'll get a quick spring up then back down causing axle hop. The oil slows the shock pistons travel up and down to absorb the load along with the spring, but prevents the spring from being pushed up too quick and back down too quick. |
