| Scale Axles - Custom Comanche Build
Alright guys, I have been wanting to build something a little less straight forward than a standard kit after building my Wraith kit (which was a blast in it's own). Not much I can do different in building a Wraith, but seems like the SCX10 platform has far more options. So after I saw the Comanche body it was set. The problem is that I can't bring myself to buy any of the kits seeing as how the axles, shocks, rear suspension, wheels, tires, etc, would all be unused and purchased separately. So I am going to build from scratch, may be a few hundred headaches but that is the best part! I will get to the point, and that is AXLES. While the SCX10 axles are great, they look like crap and very non-scale to me. So I'm looking at the RC4WD D35 front and rear axles. Now I plan to try to make this truck as scale as possible, with maybe trail riding but minimal, if any, "crawling". The rear suspension will be leafs and I am still researching a way to make could buckets in the front since the factory Comanche doesn't use struts w/springs like most axial and crawling TC's are simply by ease of design. So a few things I'm looking to you guys for is recommendations on axles, I can research, but y'all have the best knowledge from hands on experience. And also rear leaf packs (planning on using the RC4WD sets). Also haven't seen a droop kit for the scx10, is there one? Wanting to run 3.3"-3.5" tires and not have it looking super lifted. Any/all input y'all have would be greatly appreciated! Once I get further in I will turn this into a build thread! |

I would have looked at the Yota II axles. Seems far more scale then the D35 on pics.

K44 axles are the ONLY way to go with a Jeep build. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the D35 axles have been discontinued anyway.

The K44 axles have also intrigued me, though 2 axles for the price of a full kit is one hell of a bullet to bite! Lol. Though I may have to just do it!

Nah... that wouldn't look right. If you go with an axle model, stick with that model for the pair.

Well you would be correct, D35's are discontinued and even though I CAN find them online, I may not get them due to the fact that they are discontinued, so replacement parts may be hard to find. K44's are out there still but hard to find in stock... The T Rex 60's on the other hand :-) |
