Default Custom links

I am making my own custom links for my axial scx10 and was going to do an allthread through a piece of 1/4" aluminum tube.

Where is the best or cheapest place to get 1/4" aluminum tubbing?

Thanks

The all thread will take all of the stress; the tube is only to help slide over rocks and other obstacles. Get tube size that will tightly fit over the allthread. If there is any slack, you could aways wrap the allthread in electrical tape until the aluminum tube becomes tight.

Aluminum will gouge into the obstacle. A harder metal will be better such as, Stainless Steel.

I have always used brake line from the auto store. A 5 foot piece will give you plenty for top and bottom links as well as steering links. I have made links for racing clodbusters to crawlers and have always had good luck. And it is cheap material to work with. But I suppose you could go with stainless if you wanted to.

I used brass tubing..slides pretty well ..not the strongest far as dents..but works fine. I'm probably gonna use solid stock 3/16 turned down then tapped 8/32 once these get pretty hammered.

Just standard brake line. The stuff they carry now is coated in something.. If you look at my posting of my rubicon you can see the links I made. I don't run my trucks in water.. So I can't answer the rust question..

Cool, how does it hold up against rocks and stuff? Does it dent or bend easy?
Thanks

The coating on it will scratch but as for dents.. I don't believe I have ever dented any links.. But I suppose it's all in how you drive or crash..lol.. But the line is cheap so just make a few spares and if anything happens just throw a new link in.. I keep a journal on my trucks and write the lengths down that I cut so if I ever need a replacement I can pull my notes out and make another. It is a lot stronger than the stock plastic links and I figure the truck would break the mounts way before a link goes.

Yes 8-32 with Revo rod ends. I ran a tap through the rod end to make putting the ends on easier.
