| My son's SCX-10 "Deadbolt"
Purchased my son a Honcho roller. His only requests were that the body be Orange, he wanted a driver, and wanted to use the Axial 2.2 beadlocks w/ Rip Saw tires that I had on a shelf. Perfect opportunity for Daddy to upgrade right!? So, I figured I'd give him my Axial 27T (16/87) that came with my RTR Honcho as well as the AX-2 ESC. I also gave him the Savox 1258 that I was using and he used a leftover Traxxas TQi radio that we had laying around. I did purchase him a set of aluminum steering links, and 4-linked the front, but everything else is stock. For the body an AX-10 Deadbolt. Satisfies both of his requests and I don't have to paint it! Figured the 2.2's would fill the wheel wells nicely sitting nice and low on the SCX-10 chassis. Last edited by DowntownScience; 04-15-2014 at 04:16 PM. |

I got some time to put it all together this weekend and I think it looks pretty BAD@SS! I'm a little jealous! I cut the piece off of the sides of the body so that it fit lower, but other than drilling new body post holes nothing else got trimmed. Front: Back: Roof: |

I always knew this was going to happen. As soon as they came out with the Deadbolt I knew that body would make a killer scale body.Nice job man...And great job on being a cool dad...... Even though you're using his build as an excuse to upgrade your own stuff...... |

That looks fantastic! Wow. I'm thinking of turning my SCX10 project into one of these, except maybe with 1.9 wheels and Pro-Line TSL XL tires. Great gift to your son too! Steve Last edited by pastimesteve; 04-16-2014 at 07:33 PM. Reason: added a sentence |

Great job man! Especially at being such a great father. My son really enjoys my rig, just need the approval from my better half on getting him a trail rig. He's still a bit young for throttle control, but he is coming along. He's got a heavy trigger finger. We practice often, but he seems to like to go all out Happy trailing!

A couple of updates and pics playing around in the backyard. Shocks: The stock shocks came off. I didn't mess with them too much, just threw them in a bag. Not sure if there was even any oil in them, but there was zero damping! Replaced with a set of Stock Traxxas Slash Fronts. They measure almost exactly the same as the stock Axial shocks. 30 wt front, 35 wt rear. Stock white springs on front and green Losi springs in the rear. Much stiffer now. Tires: Replaced the stock Wraith foams that came with the mounted (but not glued) 2.2 Rip Saw's with the Pit Bull Dos Piezas two stage system for 2.2's. I could probably get even more foam in there to make them a bit more firm, but it's better than it was. The tires now bulge a bit at the sidewall where they didn't before. Body: I cut a piece of lexan the shape of the hood scoop and shoe goo'd it into the inside of the body so that I could cover the existing body mount holes. Then I drilled smaller holes into the new lexan so that I could use body clip retainers in the original holes. Holes are covered now and it turned out pretty clean. Not sure if I'll do the same or something different to the back holes. Next up will have to be aluminum lower links. I had no idea how crappy the plastic ones were because I swapped mine pretty early. Not really ideal for crawling. I was stuck behind a larger rock with the bumper and I noticed that the wheelbase was changing as I gave it some throttle and the entire back end of the truck walked toward the front! He'll probably get mine, because I'd like to get some bent links. Anyone have experience with bent lower links on a Honcho? What set did you get? Looking at the STRC 30 degree "mid" bend set for the AX10. Will need to size one set for the front. Are both the front and rear typically done in this arrangement or only the rear? Thanks for all the comments guys. |
