Default Mongo's SCX10 Rubicon

After being away from the hobby for a couple of years I recently got back into it with a Vaterra Twin Hammers. I liked the rig, but just wasn't feeling it. I missed slow crawling, trail runs which is what I like to do best. I missed having a solid axle rig, something I can slowly customize, and I missed the scale aspect. Not saying a Twin Hammers isn't scale, but there are ton more options available on an SXC10 platform. Say what you want about Axial but I love the quality of their product and attention to details. I will slowly be building my Rubicon up and keeping this one for awhile. I owned a Honcho in the past and here are some pics of the transformations it went through. Started out as the base Honcho kit with a few mods.

Thanks. The Rubicon may be the same color. Still deciding on paint.

Then my Honcho spent some time as a K5 Chevy Blazer.

The final version was an early Bronco, probably my favorite of the three. This is how it looked when I sold it. Missed it ever since. Good to have an SCX10 again.

Great pics from your old Honcho. I imagine your new one will look the same, seeing you have skill in that area. Hey, in those old pics, looks like you were crawling around on some volcanic rock. I guess that makes sense since the geology of that region is pretty much connected to that of Yellowstone. Cool!

I never should have sold that rig, but I guess now I get to build up something completely new. Yes, the part of Idaho I live in has lots of volcanic rock. The stuff I crawl on most of the time is in a riverbed so it's been worn smooth. Some of that volcanic rock can tear up tires really fast.

The Bronco incantation is pretty sweet. That's a chopped HPI body right?

Going to stick with the Jeep body or sell it and try something different?

Yep. HPI. Used it on some of my older Mongo builds as well. This build will stay as a Jeep. Always been a big Jeep fan. Axial nailed it scale wise with this kit.

Tranny and motor together. I'll be going with a Tekin FXR ESC and 35 turn motor on the Rubicon.

Steering servo mounted on front axle. As you can see, that's a whole lot of blue sitting up there. Had originally bought this servo for my Twin Hammers where it couldn't be seen. I plan on doing a chassis mounted servo mount soon. What do you recommend as far as a chassis mounted servo setup?

OK that gives me somewhere to start. I'm gonna tinker around and see what I can come up with.

I have the bumper mount on my JK, it is nice and works very well. My only issue is winch mounting and line routing since the servo sits right behind the grill directly behind the Warn on the bumper. If you plan to have no winch or use a bumper mounted one, then it will be fine!
