| VP locker in Currie axle
I installed a VP locker in my rear Currie axle last night. I followed the directions for the locker. After I installed the locker and tightened the bearing caps in my Currie axle, the locker assembly is hard to turn. It acts like the bearing caps are binding either the bearings or the locker itself. If I back the bolts off a half turn on the bearing caps, then the locker turns freely. I'm not tightening the bearing caps excessively. I double checked to make sure the bearing caps were installed in the correctly. The locker turns freely without the bearing caps installed, as well. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks for your help!!! Sent from my modded TI-83 plus. |

Im going to guess you have the hd gears.. there's a easy fix. one be sure the locker/ring gear gasket is not present. and double check for any contaminates in the pinion area especially. and then, you can use a thin shim to shim the locker away from the axle housing. usually .002 or .003 works well. paper is around .003 or you could sand the bearing down so the pinion has a bit more room to mesh. or if not only slightly rough, run it and it will break in quite nice actually. |

Thanks Tom!!! So, are you saying to shim the locker so the ring gear is shimmed away from the pinion gear? Basically, put a shim between the bearing and axle, on the opposite side of the ring gear? (Make sense?) Sent from my modded TI-83 plus. |

Well, I think I just fixed my problem!!! It was actually a bearing on the locker that wasn't seated completely in. So when I tightened the cap down, it was binding that bearing. I got it seated correctly, bearing caps on and tightened down - smooth as silk!!! Sent from my modded TI-83 plus. |

Yep, the bearings/lockers and caps can take a slight moving around to get them seated correctly, due to the right tolerances. Glad you got it fixed.
