Default Mad Skinz JK Rubi Scx Currie to Wraith Mod Tech

The Axial JK Rubi is a great addition to the Axial Line-up.
The Vanquish Curries are a smooth addition to it as well and Vanquish Products/Direct has given us a lot more steering out of the scx axles with high steer knucks and chubs.
We wanted to bring a few specific VP parts together and see if we could pull a few more degrees out of the steering angle.
We've all seen some pretty clean builds w these VP pieces of art but were thinking of a way to do something different with very Minimal time and already made bolt on parts.
We clearly needed to keep the Minions happy too. The Jk was getting converted back from Wroncho to 1.9 axles.

The JK has always been a contender in the scaler comp scene. But they do take some work. The CRC addition has some noticeable new features. Were luvin it!
In the RTR form, the 1.9 BFG Krawlers are a HUGE improvement in R35 white dot compound. I would've just like to see the development of Axial XVDs for this rig. They need more steering, plain and simple.

With the Curries Built, They look great with the CMS and Gun Metal is a nice touch on the truck.
At this point, they are only assembled and there has not been any mods as of yet.

Built is how were going on this so why not add Gripfab Clamp V3 style lockers w/Axial HD gears.
With steering as extreme as this, No slop Locker is the only way to go.

Staying with the NO Slop ideals, we jumped on a set of DLux Brass Bushings for the SCX10 and Wraith.

All the internals aside from the scx inner VP shafts to the VP Outer ring and pin, the Wraith Outer shaft would not have been made possible if it wasn't for the Scale Addict, who came thru for us in the Nick of Time.

OK, so heres the idea. The XR10 mod with using tubes is a great idea on SCX axles. You get more steering and the truck ends up being wider. The XR Mod actually takes quite a few more steps than this and still gets to use a set of steel xvds.
Eventhough the theory is the same, were going to add the XR function to the Curries.
Inner axles, are simply the parts used from above. ^^

The real challenge is fitting the Wraith Chubs on the Scx axles. The axles need to be ground down about 2mm and rounded just a lil for the first fitment.
Then the positon of your new hole will need to be drilled front and rear. Were keeping the existing threaded hole on the axles so the chubs will line up

The tubes were fit close to the marks and lightly tapped on.

Holes were drilled and almost straight on the first try.

Screwed and fitted, the smaller hole was widened to match the inner button head.

Chubs were also kicked back on the top for more angle to attack the rocks. Same as you can do on the wraith with the shaft splines.

Turned out pretty straight for only eye ballin it. It also has the rear kick on the top for wheel pitch to grab the rocks under the tire edge when moving. Pic2 (Side View)

This is where the DLUX NO Slop Brass Bushing comes in. You have to file down the knuckle just a smidge and test fit. It must be filed flat with no curve or these will bind after the screw is in it and tightened down.

Fitted, you can see the size of the wraith outer stub. All together, these look tough.

Compared to a wraith, I think were on the money with having some extra throw.

Wow! What an awesome write up and i am drooling at the Curries and the throw. The Gripfab Clamp V3 style lockers don't seem to be available any longer (Bummer). Would any of the others fit?

I'm not sure of Scott's opinion on this but I run a very heavy Wraith. I have Curries front and rear and 4 wheel steering and I use the VP VVDs. I also run a Tekin, Pro4' 3300kv on a 3s. Add all of that up, you have to have an extremely tough locker! I've been using Locked Up RC's FI spool and have been very happy with it! Here's a link. http://www.lockeduprc.com/FI-Spool-_p_282.html If they can take what I put them though, they are worth every penny!

End result, More throw and outer tire bite. You get the kick like we used to have on our MOA Crawlers. Its also a hidden little advantage when on the trail. I know Im one of many who hates to back up to make a gate..
