801rcc has been hosting Ultra4/Trail events (very similar to a G6) every month for a few years now. The events are primarily made up of heavily, heavily modified Wraiths or 2.2 rigs (Ultra/Trophy class vehicles), along with mild to heavily modified SCX10's or 1.9 rigs (Trail/ Adventure class vehicles). Recently there has been discussions of starting a "Stock" class. The idea behind stock class is to create a class that is very inexpensive to get into and very inexpensive to maintain. Along with creating a class that every vehicle has very similar performance. So it should make it more of a "drivers" class Okay, I picked up an SCX10 Deadbolt (Dudley) earlier this week. Now this rig will be a bit different than my usual heavily modified, customized rigs. The goal behind this car is to take a stock vehicle and just go run the piss out of it, along with running it in the "Stock" class at the 801rcc events. I also plan on chalking up a bunch of the local hiking trails hear in Utah. (I'll have to get stickers made after completing each trail, like the 1:1 big boys due for Moab trails ![]() I'll be doing a few mods along the way but they will be very mild as I plan to keep this rig legal for 801rcc's "Stock" class. I only plan to upgrade after the stock part has failed. This will give me good info what a stock SCX10 is capable of, along with what abuse and/or mileage you could expect from the stock parts. I also plan to log most if not all of Dudleys mileage (as best I can), by having an on board GPS. I'll try to update the thread with what trail, adventure, or event we ran and how long the trail was and how well the rig did performance and durability wise. I plan to have a ton of fun running and documenting Dudley's adventures and hope that you guys enjoy it too. Dudleys Current Electronics

Dudley's First adventure was a boat ride from somewhere overseas to the US, in a brown box with Axial's special green wrapping. Once in the US he was then transported via UPS to the LHS (West Valley Hobbies), were Dudley and I meet up. Now it's time to start hitting the trails and really get this adventure rolling. Hoping to get out on the trail this weekend, but no promises with Axialfest preparations well under way. Initial thoughts on the rig. Great looking body, I dig the old Scout look and me being a Toyota guy I couldn't go with a Jeep. The Paint is beautiful, the green has a slight pearl to it that you can't really see in the pics or videos. The driveshafts look very beefy and I doubt I'll ever have issues with them. The New dual slipper should be great and might actually be usable as a slipper. I don't know anyone that currently doesn't have their Axial Slipper cranked all the way down. Didn't get out to run Dudley this weekend with all the Axialfest preparations. I did however find a little time to trim up some of the stock parts. Nothing new to many of you but here is the work on the rock sliders Pic of the stock slider next to the trimmed one ![]() Here you can see how much they have been pulled in, along with the small notches I put in the mounts to pull the sliders in just a bit more. ![]() ![]() |

If you want those sliders in even more you can cut them like this. ![]() ![]() Just grab a drill bit that slides through the hole in the mounts. Press the slider in as far as you can get it and drill right through the nubbin! ![]() Here they are on my son's SCX10 with AX-10 Deadbolt body. The body tucks nicely into the inside edge of the outside tube. As the title of this thread reads, Dudley is all about adventure and many of you know that the ultimate scale adventure is the legendary event, Axialfest, hosted by Recon. Axailfest is truly the most epic Scale event around and what better place to start logging drive time. I was running in the 2.2 Ultra class so Dudley didn't hit the trails till Sunday morning for the Sunday Fun Run. I wasn't going to take it easy on Dudley though, we ran about half of one of the G6 trails before detouring off for some good rock down by the river. Of course with water near by and Dudley being equipped with a waterproof ESC, I made sure to test just how water proof Dudley is. So we spent a good amount of time splashing round in the river. I logged 2 full packs and 4 hours of drive time on Dudleys maiden run. As for carnage there was none to report. Dudley ran flawlessly through the 2 packs. So No wrench time yet ![]() I also would like to say that this rig performed far above my expectations for a stock rig. I like this ![]() Cool concept recording the distance traveled. Can I make a suggestion to take it a step further? Check out Strava, its a biking, running/hiking app. Has some pretty cool features and would work great for your concept. Super easy to embed the routes also. |

You might have noticed in some of the pics that I switched out the stock "Race" helmet for the open face Skull helmet. I wanted to go above what you typically would see, witch is usually just left white with a decal thrown on. So I hit up Dirty Mike to get a little more realistic and detailed paint job on Dudley. The Skull head has some real good detail so Mike was able to pull off a real nice paint job. So far this is way above any Deadbolt helmet I've seen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The Lucas Oil Short Course races were in town over the weekend ![]() I took Dudley out with me to cruse around in the pits to help promote the hobby shop and Axial along with playing around on the man made rock crawling course. Dudley logged just over 3 miles of distance. Most of which was very easy mileage on asphalt or gravel, but mileage none the less. While there, Dudley spent time in the Maxxis booth promoting Maxxis tires and Axial Racing ![]() Also while running through the pits Axial sponsored driver Casey Currie spotted us and called us over to hit pit. He was excited to see the new Deadbolt G6 and very eager to show us his official CRC Jeep that Axial and Vanquish had put together for him. We finished out the day by hitting the Rock Crawling area to play on the man made course that Miller Motorsports Park has. Okay time to squeeze a little performance out of Dudley before the next outing. An easy way to get a little more performance is to relocate the electronics. Lets get to it!! first up, I prefer the motor to be mounted on the passenger side of the rig to help compensate for a little bit of the torque twist. This will also give us more room for the electronics relocation. I just unbolted the skid plate flipped it around and re-installed. Pretty simple. (you'll need to swap the + and - on the motor so it runs the right direction) The battery is the heaviest single component in the vehicle so moving it to the front helps keep the front end down on some of the bigger climbs. On one of Rocksurfer's rigs I saw a pretty trick way to get the battery up front, using a few parts that come in the extra parts bag included with the rig. First I had to move the RX box and the ESC to the rear of the vehicle to make room for the battery. There is already mounting holes for the RX box on the rear chassis brace. So a simple bolt in relocation for the box. The ESC was just as easy. A glob of silicon glue on the bottom and I stuck it right on the rear chassis brace, right behind the newly relocated RX box. Now that the ESC and RX are out of the way, I had the room to mount the battery where I wanted. First I found the extra servo mounts in the spare parts bag and bolted them up to the chassis where the support legs for the RX box used to go. Next I bolted a couple of the P-shaped rodends onto the battery plate in the slots where the velcro straps used to go. Then place the battery plate across the chassis and line up the holes on the new mounts. The P-shaped rod ends line up with the rear screw on the shock hoops. So with nothing more than a couple screws the electronics relocation is complete. Do you plan on keeping that body now that Casey signed it? I would be worried about rubbing the signature off if it bounced it against a rock.
