I just bought a scx10 jk and was wondering if there is any thing that I need to upgrade right away?

Whatever you manage to break first.

I think getting some weight down low on your axles makes for a more enjoyable driving experience. The FI spool from Locked Up RC is a really solid piece of steel and easy to install. Beef Tubes will also add weight and strength, just ream out the outer bearing truss in your axle housings with a 7/16 drill bit and lay em in place; you may have to use a round file until the halves press back together.

Is it a RTR or a kit version? If it's a RTR the absolute first thing that needs to be upgraded is the steering links fom plastic to aluminum.

And don't forget the coarse thread screws on the knuckles, and C's need to be replaced with machine screws.

You nailed it. And don't forget the rear lockouts. That is absolutely the only thing that I feel MUST be done to any scx-10 right out of the box before I would ever even drive it.

I found nothing really needs to be upgraded until it breaks, but the first thing I did was aluminum suspension and steering links, definitely helped overall

Weight in the front wheels helps a lot, as does sticky compound tires if you like to rock crawl. It all depends on your goals and the type of driving you do. You can upgrade for performance, scale appearance, or durability. You picked a great truck, they do great right out of the box. I agree with the comment to just see what breaks.
