| Stock front 4-link?
Can I turn the front 3 link into a 4 link using just spare parts that came with my Trail Honcho? Thought I had read that you can but I can't find a how to. Thanks

yes details should be in the instruction/owners manual. The Axial website links those manuals if you've lost yours. |

Doesn't show it in the manual. Just shows the 3-link setup. I figured it out. I had to remove one of the chassis cross bars to clear the servo arm tho. Just need a longer bolt to put thru the axle link mount and it should work good. I used the 3-link screw as a temporary fix. Thanks

| Re: Stock front 4-link? pages 21 and 22 in the RTR inst. manual basically the same deal as the rear... only the front links are shorter. I'll admit it is difficult to understand. I looked a page 12 to have a sense of understanding as to what optional parts trees were remaining to do this option. Last edited by TacoCrawler; 07-13-2014 at 02:53 PM. |

Page 22 is showing how to install the lower links to the front axle along with the shocks, in bold outlines. The upper link is the y link in the picture, the lines aren't as bold. Page 21 only shows what links to use and how to put in the mounting hardware. I don't see anything about it in the manual but that's what the extra links gotta be for because they are a different length than the rest of the links.

^ it doesn't discuss doing so but it indicates by illustration how it should be if looking at the rear 4 link sorry my help was not explicit There was a spare parts tree in my RTR kit that had spare links and the 4 link mount on it... I believe it is shown on page 12. Maybe I think outside the box... but I put the two together in my head and was able to install the 4 link up front using the illustration to follow thru. I thought you said you had already figured something out ? |

Yea I did figure it out. I did like you were saying and just mirrored the rear set-up. All the pieces needed are there except for three screws and one nut which I had some spare screws from another project I'm working on. Two screws were longer then I needed so I put spacers on them that were also on the part trees. I was just saying that I dont see the info in the manual. Thanks for your help.

...glad you got it I never liked the plastic links anyways... one of the upper links would actually touch the drive shaft and I didn't like that... not to mention their flex when pushed. So shortly after installing the plastic links I discarded those and replaced them with alloy link rods. I looked at trail honcho "builder's kit" for instructions for those lengths. The "builder's kits" has more detailed user instructions. The RTR manual seems more lacking... but then... it's already built ! Lol |

Yea I don't like the plastic links either. They will be the first thing I replace, then the steering link after that. The rear tires almost touch the cab everytime you get in a tight spot. Changing the front to a 4 link helped with the drive shaft making contact on the link also. |

I've just gotten my Honcho and was tossing around the idea of swapping the front to a four link setup. This is my first RC since the early 90s, so it's nice getting back in the hobby. Question is this. If Axial made it as a 3 link, then there's a reason why, right? The extra 4 link parts provided were, I assumed, as replacement for the rear setup. But, when I compared the lengths of the extra link arms there are different sizes provided from what was on the RTR model I purchased. So this lead me back to thinking that a front 4 link is intended as a variation. I used some 8/32" threaded rod and the Traxxas end links to make new links for mine. I was able to cut and fine adjust until I had clocked the front and rear axles slightly to alleviate some driveshaft bind. When I get an opportunity, I'll be swapping the front to 4 link, as well.
