| Dig Trans: Scale or a True Dig?
As the subject says I'm a bit torn on the way I want to bolt this up.... I originally got it because I wanted it to do more of a scale like 2wd/4wd shift but now that I've seen videos and read explanations as to why you want fwd (steep climbs to keep from rw bucking) I'm thinking on keeping it as it was meant. Here's my issue. I currently have the radio box installed up front and the battery over the rear which I wanted to move up front anyway because of weight distribution and it flipping backwards every time I try to climb. The problem is with the dig in the position it's intended the radio box is in the way and I believe the optional front mount for the battery relies on the radio box being up front. So I guess it's two questions: scale shift or true dig How to mount front battery with radio box in the back Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Last edited by emersonsc; 07-20-2014 at 03:34 PM. |

IMO I'd use it for dig... or not at all reason I don't feel it is scale like in shifting from 4X - 2WD is because the axles remain locked. I don't do comps... so a dig is not of value to me. You could make a battery box that hangs under the frame rails at the rear... and replicates a fuel tank/cell. ^ but not too far rearward... just enough to clear the axle housing. As you would like your rig stop flipping backward as you climb, putting everything in front will definitely help. Mod the battery mount sideways, mount between the front axle and gearbox, both reciver box and esc goes above the servo.

a dig will not help you with steep climbs. end of story. the tires up front will just spin and the rear will be like dead weight. even on flat ground you can tell 2wd(front) isn't gonna get you anywere. I had axials 3pos dig on my last rig, and it worked fine mechanically. I had a front mounted battery, and front mounted electronics box. I did however put my esc in the rear zip tied to the frame braces. basically a dig imo is good for a tight turning radius, cuts those reverse points down. or to better control your downhill desents. or lastly to save on battery life and get a higher top speed on flats/straights. this time around im doing od front and ud rear gears, and high steer with cvds up front. leaving the dig out. it seemed nice but its a lot of weight and not a lot else. also I think dig isn't even legal in a lot of the scale classes. at least the ones I want to compete in. if your tipping over backwards its weight distribution that will help the most. a dig wont do anything for that imo. |
