| DMS1 SCX10 Jeep Wrangler G6 Falken to Hilux Build
I just purchased the SCX10 Jeep Wrangler G6 Falken and plan to have set it up with Toyota Hilux hard body for display and Hilux lexan body for play. I will show my progress here. So far I have purchased the Axial AX30426 Steering upgrade kit and the RC4WD Mojave Hilux body, and might also get the Axial 31142 Link set, but won't purchase it until I figure out what I am going to do with the wheelbase issue. I have also purchased 2 Turnigy 3.0 3000mAh 40-50c LiPo batteries. Wheelbase Issue: The first order of business will be to research how to shorten the wheelbase 1/4 to 1/2 inch or modify the Hilux body to better fit the current wheelbase. Other Items: I have noticed the steering servo horn sometimes hits the front chassis crossmember, will need to figure out how to fix that. Also there are two brackets on the passenger side of the chassis right next the transmission which I have no idea what they are for? Anyone know? Last edited by dms1; 08-03-2014 at 04:54 PM. Take the crossmember out or file it down so the servo clears it. The brackets are to secure the esc wires so they can't get near the motor or shafts.

I ended up removing the servo and filing off about 1/16 of an inch off of the servo mounts and now the servo does not hit anymore. I have received the Hilux hardbody and lexan bodies so now I can start painting, will post pictures later tonight. I'm also looking to purchase some spare pinion and spur gears, the manual says they used a 32P 56T Spur gear and a 32P 13T Pinion gear but I counted a 14T Spur gear. So I might go with a 13T Pinion and I am unable to find 56T Spur gear for sale anywhere. |

So I have run about 8 battery charges thru my SCX10 and it is still running good. The only changes I have made are relocating the battery to the front and I am running a set of Pit Bull Rock Beast Tires on the Axial 1.9 Bead Lock rims. I am going to try to relocate the battery tray so it sits behind the shock towers and in front of the motor, will try to do that this weekend. I also added 2.75 oz of wheel weights to each tire and three ounces to the steering servo.

I have also received all of the parts I will use on the RC4WD Mojave body and hope to start on that project this weekend. I decided to not use the Hilux Lexan bodies and will be selling those.

Instead I decided to go with a Honcho body. Here it is before I wired the lights. |

I need to figure out a way to better secure the rear light mounts that attach to the roll bar, they are as tight as they will get and are real loose. Might try to put a piece of silicone tape under the mount. I'm talking about the mounts near the white tape on the roll bars in the picture above).

Would like to see how you ended up mounting the battery to the front of the frame. Any chance you can take a picture of your progress there? Also, did you notice better performance? My Falken is still stock, but looking to upgrade a few things...the steering kit, servo horn (not sure on the which tooth count to get), and the links. Nice progress on body and lights! -Deke | |

I followed the instructions on Axials Web site, but I didnt like it because it rolled over to easy, so now I have moved the battery to behind the shocks crossways. I will post a picture later. Also, I haven't started the Mohave Hilux body yet due to life and work getting in the way ;- ( |

Here are the current battery relocation pics: View from the back: View From The Side: View from the front: The receiver box is wonky from the tork of the screws on the plastic posts I created. Im going to relocate the battery box and receiver down to the rock sliders. Will need to create some kind of platform first. |

Hey thanks for the quick follow-up. Interesting mount option...I suppose I should mess around doing the same thing.

I just used some zip ties to hold the battery plate there, then I used shelf paper padding stuff to keep the battery from sliding around, that works really well. The posts that the receiver box is mounted to are 1/4" nylon screws, but I plan to move that on top of the sliders.

Also, you can see that I put 3oz of wheel weights on top of the steering servo. Those are leftover from adding weights to my wheels. I added 2.75 Oz. to each wheel, Axial beadlocks.
