Default Out with the JK - in with the F350!

I really liked my JK Rubicon body, but it seemed like they are everywhere....so since building my Hilux Truggy I really liked the hard body approach to a more true scale appearance. So my plans are to stick with my SCX10/portal axled/Summit trans base chassis and add this High Lift assembly. Thinking about recessing the spare, trying my hand at brazing a rear roll cage and a few other mods.

Out with the old......

In with the new!

Traced the tire where I am going to recess it....

Quick update.....cut the recess in the bed, have an idea for a roll bar that will tie to the cross bar shown just in front of the spare tire. Test fit the body. Really like it so far. may have to shorten the wheel base.....not sure yet.

Have a few holes to fill that won't be used.

Going to hinge the body assembly so I don't have to constantly mess with the body side fasteners every time I need to service the battery / chassis. Do not want holes in the hood!

The chassis....

I like what you've done so far. I have to agree with you on the Jeeps. I love mine, but they are everywhere.

Got a little body work started. Filled in unwanted holes. Added and mocked up a side exhaust kit.

Got a little further. Silver base coat, going with a candy blue at the character line up and clear pearl top coat. Started the roll bar....need to hone my brazing skills! Not going to use the stock tailgate. Going to fab this block out as the taillight bucket / lens holder and rear "tailgate". It should also conceal the pivot for the body tilt hinge. Bumper is still in the air, not sure I want to use the stock one. Going to use black wrinkle finish for the bed to give it a spray bedliner appearance.

Looks pretty good, how are you going to mount the spare?

Also, why is your chassis flipped front to rear?

I haven't gotten to the mount method yet, but I plan to fab a bracket that mounts to the frame. As to the chassis, not sure I follow. Maybe your seeing the mount being a little "un-SCX10 due tot the motor mounted to the Summit trans?

I mean your frame rails are the opposite of a conventional scx, the straight part of the rail is usually the rear and the arched part of the rail is the front.

I thought you might have done this for clearance or something like that. Don't get me wrong, if it works that's cool, just backward from everything else I've seen.

For me reversing the frame rail direction made sense. My SCX10 Hilux Truggy is normal but this one due to the way I wanted to mount my servo just made sense to have the straight frame rail sections forward. Besides I knew I was never going to do a bed type rig out of this one. Articulation was never effected, couple of photos of front and rear twisting with room to spare.

Body now has clear coat applied. Looks great in the sun. Going to get very upset the first time it rolls!

With out clear coat.

Figured a way to hinge the body, Bracket mounted a hinge rear and a plate at the front that straddles the stock body posts with velco. Mounted the spare. Need to figure out if I want the stock rear bumper or something more beefy! Add some lighting, windshield and an interior. Going to hate the first time it rolls and adds a few scrapes!
