skid height
 

Ive got a scx based class 2 scaler going and I just out the traxxas BBs on and with the mad beasts I sit at 3" skid height and with baja claw ttc's im at 3 1/4". Was wondering if thats to tall or what everyone thinks about that.

I roll the Traxxas 100mm BB's

my lower center skid measures about 2.5" above the ground.

What springs are you running ?
The original red Traxxas coil springs rate is too stiff IMO.
and will likely not allow for any static squat.

I use the Losi 4" BB white coil springs.
2.75" L / 1.8 lb/rate
Losi part # 5147

my static ride height is about 50% squat
my suspension's travel is designed for approximately
50% up travel and 50% down travel.

Yeah I tun the BBs now. Got my advice from you on my shock thread"thumbsup" how my chassis was built the front sits at 3 1/4" in the fron and closer to 3 3/4" in the back. And I too am runnin the white Losi springs. Ive got great up travel. But my shocks are sitting probably closer to 70-30 bias. I took the preload clips out from advice from someone else and it made it not as tall. Im just worried about toppling over to easy with how my weight is mostly center and slightly toward the rear with how this truggy chassis was built. Im wanting to make the g6 in Florida. But I dont want to be recovering every few minutes.

run the suspension for a bit...
it is likely that the coil springs will settle some
after some use/time and gravity.

It could be that your rig is factory lite...
so... in your case...
maybe try the Losi grey 2.75" 1.6lb rated CS's ( # 5146 )

After adding my custom bumpers, sliders, winch, cab interior, etc.
my chassis is now probably over 9 lbs
so chassis weight definitely plays a roll.

The best way to keep your COG low...
is to lower your static ride height.
Either by chassis weight/lesser spring rate tuning...
or even by relocating (raising) the shocks upper mount position.

Ideally...
the CO should sit squat around 60/40 in it's travel perimeters.
= 60% down travel/40% up travel.
50/50 is my current set up.

The other thing that can help staying upright...
is to put more weight down low on/inside the axle housings.
I run tire/wheel weights... as well as steel "beef tubes" inside the axle housings (Fr/Rr).

After getting the chassis/suspension dialed in for your wants/likes...
It would still likely come down to your abilities and understanding...
that there are limitations regarding chassis angles...
just like there is with 1:1 wheeling.

If yer always pushing those limits...
yer body will be marred and scarred ! Lol

If you haven't already tried it yet adjust your upper shock mounts inward. This will soften up the springs and might lower everything without changing your springs.

good point "thumbsup"

moving the upper CO mount(s) to the holes on the CO's tower
nearest to the chassis center... is definitely worth the attempt.

there are also mfgr's that offer offsetting plates that can be mounted
to the stock plastic hoop...
those would offer even more lean (progression) to the CO.

I prefer my CO bodies to be as vertical as possible...
IMO the CO works best in this position.
but in the OP's case... doing this might be helpful.

Well see I have a custom welded chassis. Id have to strip it to braize or move anything. Im running curries and weighted wheels so mine is weighted low. Not the first rig I have had to weigh down lol. Mine or prolly 60-70% uptravel. Thats with the wihites as mentioned with no clips. To get the uptravel limited it sots way to high woth the whires
