Default Scx10 Deadbolt.

Recently got the above and id like to slow it down abit from stock as I dont need the top spee (slightly above walking speed is good enough) I believe but im not 100% that it comes with a 12t pinion?would dropping down to a 10t make much difference?can someone put a link up to a suitable pinion from a uk supplier?

Any help/advice appreciated.

It comes with a 13t, i went with a 10t on mine and it works for me. I like to have a 5.0 to 5.5 to 1 ratio for my final ratio.

Almost all pinions are the same mate, with very few exceptions. They do only mount onto the motor shaft, which is standardized, after all. Grab the traxxas ones. If they look the same (ie. they look like they have the same offset), they'll fit.
Cheers,

Robinson Racing makes a hardened steel 32P 10T pinion gear. RR is well-known, in all aspects of RC, to make high quality gears. I might reduce my pinion size, also, to get a slower speed on the approach, apart from throttle control. I don't need much more than a fast walking pace on mine, either. I wonder, now, if my LHS might have one in stock, so I can change it out tonight. I'm planning a serious trailing excursion for tomorrow, where there'll be significant rocky segments.

I have just got one of these truck also. I changed the motor out to a 35t. have been driving it for the last 2 weeks and liked it a lot. Really good wheel speed and crawls very well. Come to find out that I put the wrong motor in. Instead of a 35t I put in a 55T. out of the 4 trucks I have it is the fastest and my comp truck has a 35t holmes hobbies in it. Try it with a 55t and see how you like it.

Thanks for the responses people ill look into the robinson racing pinions as ive heard the brand mentioned a few times. I think ill go with swapping the pinion first as my motor is in perfect working order (at the moment), so to change it seems pointless and a waste of money.its good to hear your views on different motors tho.........how much slower top speed does a 55t have over the stock 27t?

Thanks.

the stock 27t is pretty fast. with the 55t it is a little faster than a fast walk. you will find that changing the pinion gear wont slow it down that much

Are you running a 2S or 3S Lipo? From what I've read, the general consensus is that a 55T will be slower than snot on 2S, and works best when combined with a 3S. Gearing down (and/or gearing up on the spur gear) is probably the best option for the type of owner who's content to run their stock motor until it gives out, of which I am one.

I am running a 35t Novak in my scx10 deadbolt with stock 13/56 gearing and it is slightly faster than walking speed which I think is perfect. As for pinions Robinson Racing is #1 in my book.

I am running 2s with stock 13/56 gearing as well. Trust me it makes no since to me that it is that fast.

Was out trailing today and drove into a bog/stream which buried my truck almost to the top of the doors! I was trying to reverse out and my motor stopped.........left it for a little while and it kicked back into life and then seemed fine, is this normal behavior because of the water/mud or is my motor about to die?can I clean it out, I think Ive heard something about running it in clean water to get the crud out?its the stock motor btw.

It would of most likely shorted out something in the electrical system, most likely the motor/ESC. Then when it dried a bit, it started again because the short was fixed. If you're going to be driving in and around water and mud often Od have a spare motor on hand, just so you're not left stuck waiting for another when you eventually kill it.

If you think there may be crud in the motor (which there will be if the water was dirty or there was a bit of mud involved), rinse it out with distilled water as it's basically 100% nonconductive. Hell, you could even run the motor a bit in a cup of distilled water if you really wanted, but I wouldn't recommend it and won't take responsibility if you run it in the water and kill it lol.
Cheers,

The esc is waterproof and ive silicon sealed the receiver inside its box so no water should have got in there.was just a bit random, ive had it upto the top of the doors in water a few times with no issues. Think ill just leave it for now and see how it goes next time I use it.thanks for the advice.

I have a question about weight distribution.........I see pretty much everyone moves the battery from the rear to the front, I have yet to do this but I have however added about 150grams to the front end to balance it out (the front end now weighs more than the rear) and turned the battery tray round which shifts it forward about 10mm. So my question is....is it better to have some weight at the back but more at the front like I have or no weight at the back and it all up front?surely having no weight at the rear reduces grip at the back wheels?I understand the benifit of having a heavy front end but cant see the benifit in having no weight over the rear tires.it seems to crawl really well but i have nothing to compare it to and its my first crawler.
