Spare tire? I was about to order a new Falken or deadbolt but I noticed neither of them come with a spare tire. I did a quick ebay search and could not find just a single tire to add to the truck that is the same as what comes on these trucks. I really like the look of a spare tire on the back. Looks aside is there an advantage to having or not having a spare tire on the back of my rig? Will the weight make much of a difference? |
Re: Spare tire? It depends on how it's mounted. Sometimes it gets in the way of approach angle sometimes not. But I'm with you on the looks of having a spare |
Re: Spare tire? I have only had my SCX10 for about two weeks now but after my first trip out I removed the rear bumper, tire and tire carrier. In my opinion the additional weight of the tire plus the extra overhang caused me several issues. |
Re: Spare tire? i agree, spares do look cool. plus some events require you to carry a spare, but it often just gets in the way and adds unnecessary weight to the rear of your vehicle. the idea is to have as much weight close tot he front of your rig for better crawling. i had a spare on mine for a while with the poison spyder rear swing out bumper and it got hung up and everything. aside from all that, it really just comes down to your personal preference. build it to look and perform how you want it to. Re: Spare tire? not a fan of spares, took mine off my rubicon and do not miss it on my g6. if you want one id keep looking but the falken tires are pretty new so youll have to dig |

Re: Spare tire? What is cl? I'm new to crawling |
Re: Spare tire? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/eby5y8ar.jpg I run my spare tire here it still crawls great but I have the weight distributed 60/40 meaning the front of my truck weighs 20 percent more than the rear of my truck. It can weigh 5 pounds or 15 pounds and as long as you keep in the 60/40 it will crawl. CI is a company crawler innovations they sell special foams for crawling if I were you I would order not only a spare tire but a set of their nova 1.9 foams or a two stage closed cell foam. These will help your truck perform a lot better than stock foams |
Re: Spare tire? a spare tire mounted too high can increase the chassis's COG... an over hanging spare tire at the rear can drag on whatever during departure... and add unwanted weight/leverage to the rear. Granted... the spare's weight hanging off the rear bumper could be ballasted with more weight added to the front. the honcho's spare tire sits lower nearer frame level... so that doesn't increase the COG too much. spare tires sitting atop a body... offers no scale appeal for me. -------------------- ^ your driver figure looks silly with his head poking out above the roll bar. Cut him off at the waist... or change the interior to a full depth interior. or just lose that driver figure altogether... 'cuz it's placement looks retarded. Not trying to be insulting... just pointing out my observations. |

A balanced rig will preform better than a front heavy rig. IMO 60/40 is a perfect weight balance front to rear. |
Re: Spare tire? I have the Rubicon JK and took off the spare and added it to the top. I tested the roll over by leaning it and measuring the tipping angle and so no difference. But your results my vary. http://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/...pse31e488c.jpg |

Is that driver really mounted there? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Spare tire? I like spare tires unless they get in the way of departure angles. I like to have a matching wheel and tire too when possible as a mismatch annoys me for some reason. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I don't really care that the wheel matches in looks... but will always demand of myself... that the tire/wheel size be near equal in height and properly sized to it's brethren. ^ I'm not anal... but it should be something realized and maintained by everyone whom travels off road. I dealt with this issue for 1:1 club events. inspection would all too often find an odd sized spare that would be next to useless as a functional spare. I once even had to point out to a club guest that his spare would not even bolt on to his vehicle's hub  |
