| How do I cure locker slop?
Hi, first off I searched a bit for this but didn't come up with I needed. My question is pretty much in the title. I noticed that my tires wobbled quite a bit. I know they always have a little bit of play, however I was able to rotate the front tire about 70 degrees. I used a protractor for anybody who is wondering where the measurement came from, does this sound like a bit much? as you can see the screws have backed out severely, one of which fell out. How do I stop this? I've tried using loctite, I use blue compound very sparingly because I'm afraid of using more on such small bolts. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk |

Did you use the locktite into plastic? That may be your problem. Locktite actuallu dissolves the plastic and should only be used in metal. To answer your main question, there are several venders here that sell no slop lockers/spools. Locked up rc is one such vendor I can think of off the top of my head. |

I wouldn't use locktite... it don't get along with some plastics. Instead... a very fine, teeny weeny, smidgeon of CA glue on the threads nearing the tip of the screw and you will be golden. Only use locktite when metal threads into metal. Higher quality lockers and spools are offered/sold. By some mfgr's like Locked Up RC The have better tolerances as well. Is it the tire that is wobbling or the wheel on the spindle ? |

Any chance you have an RTR? I only ask because it's far to common to have those ring gear to carrier bolts come apart due to either undertightening them, or overtightening them to the point of pullimg the threads apart in which case you'll never be able to keep them tight. When installing those little 2mm bolts into plastic you can feel them bottom if your using a good allen driver, as opposed to all the leverage you gain with those L-wrenches. You only need to tighten them to bottomed, and a smidge extra to snug them up. The stock lockers are notoriously loose. Some even eventually break the tangs off inside the carrier and you loose drive to the axles. I always JB-welded the stock "sintered" spool to the carrier during initial assembly to keep some of the inherent slop from developing. Only way to take out all the slop is to go to a setscrew style locker (I'm partial to the Felsenfest ones), which requires patience and precision to properly install, or if you can find one, the Locked up R/C FI spool is a very snug fit on the stock axles. I suggest staying away from the Hot Racing spools if you are trying to reduce slop. Loc-tite is only intended for use on fasteners threading into metal, you gain nothing by using it on plastic threads. If you absolutely must reuse those parts, a dab of superglue on the bolt threads should keep them in place until you can procure better spools. |

It is actually a kit, it has been awhile since the axle has been opened up, this might be the problem. Which locker do you guys recommend the Locked Up Rc fl or the Grip Fab? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk Last edited by Pgambardella; 09-15-2014 at 08:54 PM. | |

i had a similar issue, a dab of shoe goo on the tip of the bolts did the trick for me.

my .03 cents. For me it is hard to tell which is better until i get more running time. I went from stock axles, stock lockers and Trep R35's to Curries with a Gripfab and Axial uni in the front, LURC FI Spool with E Shafts in the back and Pit RB's. The install of the GF and FI with the new shafts and uni's took out all the play i noticed before on the bench and driving. Either choice as of right now i don't think you will regret.

If you are steering towards the set screws to lock the axle in place....GCM Racing also makes that style locker as well. Never had a GCM item yet but from what I can see their stuff is top notch as well.
