Default Hilux scx-10

I have been out of the crawling world for quite some time. With Comps starting to happen locally I figured I would jump back in. My ride started out as a basic honcho kit and I bought some Navak super rooster crawler esc and 45t motor. Fast forward to now. It now has a Hilux Cab and Honch bed cage. And soon to Have a CC BEC, Pit Bull rock beasts komp kompound, and some other custom parts to come. But this will be a very slow build. I will add pictures shortly.

Looks real original, don't see that color too much, has real potential. Check out SFM chassis works, they have bolt on rear tubes for that chassis/body combo, I got one for my SCX/F250, looks good. Hope ya have fun with it.

The ultimate plan is to do a 3/16 tube flatbed/truggy look. Haven't quite figured the whole direction yet. On step at a time.

Just to give you some ideas...this is what mine looks like. I built the truck to pull a heavy trailer...so that's the AJS Machine bumper mount/trailer hitch with a RC4WD tow bar mount as a rear bumper, it takes an adapter to make it work, also from RC4WD. I also added a rear slider from a dude down in Atlantic Beach, originally intended as a Wraith front bumper.

Did a little tinkering and testing the other night. I'm running a highlift battery mount. I lost my stock axial one.
Just waiting for my box of goodies to show up for the next phase.

I'm thinking about switching to a digital radio and receiver setup specificly the axial AX-3. Will that be a more comp friendly setup? Instead of the running crystals like I am. Is there a good thread to read up on switching to digital radios? I have searched and will keep searching for one.

Thanks
Ken

My RPP hobby package came early. So I started off by putting My new Pitbull Rock Beast 2's on. Man I forgot how long it can take to put 4 bead locks together. This is and end of the night picture. I will be cleaning the body for the new tires. and adding the stock honcho bumper. eventually I want to remove all of the plastic "armor" for 3/16 tubing. but that is down the road.

I modded the stock sliders into more of a 1:1 look.

Then It was time to do a little testing. I have to say wow. This was the first time I was actual worried about binding and breaking something. These tires are crazy compared to stock flat irons. I can't wait to test them more in the daylight.

Then After the quick test run. It was tear down time. I am starting at the front and working my way back. The initial tear down was to start my XR10 mode. I have the axles shaved and the knuckles slide on. I'm still waiting for my xr shafts to come in. But I will soon be measuring up the axles to make beef tubes. I'm not sure if I want delrin or aluminium yet. I guess it all depends on what we have for scrap at work. But I'm leaning towards aluminium.

Thanks for looking,
Ken

I'm in the middle of my XR10 mod. Would I be better off with a longer drag link or shorter drag link? Either way I have to make a new one. Just wondering which one would be better.

Thanks.
Ken

Longer is better. A longer drag link will have less perceived angle change for a given amount of travel.
Ultimately you want your panhard bar and drag link to be parallel and the same length.

Thank you. I have an axle mount servo for the time being. I can rule out the panhard bar part.

No worries. I do plan to eventually run a cms once i design and make one. So you already answered a question i would have probably had.

I'm hoping to have and update soon on the finished XR mod and waterproofed electronics. I'm going to use a combination of conformal coating the circuit boards and then plastidiping the cases to have 2 layers of protection.

Thanks.
Ken

I also bought a truggy cage from SMF, this one is the A063, there are a couple photos of it in his customer posts. Great build quality, very reasonably priced. The Hilux has since been painted solid red since this pic.

They really make it hard do it yourself. With those sweet chassis and for a very reasonable price. Nice truck.
