| My 1979 Ford F150 SCX10
After a hiatus from the crawling/trailing scene, I've made a return with my new 1979 Ford F150 SCX10. This started life as the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited C/R Edition. That was cool, but I can't leave well enough alone. So on came the HPI 1979 Ford F150 body painted to give it a bit of the period look. HPI certainly helps with the included graphics. So after laying down some Spaz Stix solid Sky Blue paint and then "weathering" the paint, this is what you get. "Busted" window. Glad to be back! Last edited by ebbet; 10-23-2014 at 06:26 PM. |

After moving the battery tray forward and adding some RC4WD front and rear bumpers, it was running pretty well, but the stock tires just seemed way too soft and the foams felt non existent. After quite a bit of searching, I decided on Pit Bull Mad Beasts with GMade raw steel beadlocks. Also added a steering stabilizer and some Yeah Racing D rings. Proline's tool box made for a nice addition to the bed along with the requisite hi lift jack. Last edited by ebbet; 10-23-2014 at 06:28 PM. |

Nice reminds me of mine! How you like that bumper? And how did you weather the paint?

RC4WD Tough Armor Competition Stinger Bumper to fit Axial SCX10 As for weathering the paint, I actually painted the outside of the body first with a darker blue color. Then painted the sky blue over top. Let it dry and then wet sanded it with steel wool. I also took some black model paint and did a wet brush in places to add more depth and areas of grime. | |

Typically I just lay down a little red followed by a little orange and then back it with black. That way when the outer paint scrapes off, the rust color shows through. You can see a little of that on the driver's side door at the window line. |

| Re: My 1979 Ford F150 SCX10 Thanks, Zukiiholic! Already had the aluminum link set installed, but just installed the front overdrive gear set, as well. Also, broke the right front knuckle, so replaced that with the Axial aluminum piece. My plan was to get the Vanquish Stage 1 kit, but that will wait for now. I also replaced the foams that came with the Mad Beasts with some Crawler Innovations closed cell foams. Jury is still out on that. I think they may be too hard and not allow enough flex. My truck is just not heavy enough, I guess. Might have to go back to the 2 stage foams that came with the Mad Beasts. Went out trailing for a little while this morning and fried the stock motor. Thankfully, one of the LHS's had an Integy 35T motor in stock. I've never used an Integy motor, so hopefully it is an adequate motor. Guess we are going to find out. |

| Re: My 1979 Ford F150 SCX10 Thanks, highroad! I still want to get some kind of interior and a driver. I have a Hunter Dan figure, but not sure that is what I want to use. I really want a Sam Fisher figure, but they can be hard to find and the ones you do find on the bay are somewhat pricey for what I am going to do with it. After that, a winch might be in order. Maybe convert to CMS? Of course, some of that might need to wait until after the Vanquish Stage 1 kit and maybe upgrade the gears in the tranny. Still haven't had an opportunity to run the Integy 35T motor. Anyone have any experience with these or any other Integy motors? |
