It's handy having a sacrificial clear body to help with the mock ups. This is the body that the fibreglass body was molded from. It's pretty much trashed but perfect for this.

I'm thinking this isn't too bad for position. It'll need some bars to protect it in a roll over situation. Maybe needs to be set in a bit more.

Here's some for you to check out, it looks like that shroud that the coil is mounted to is actually under the lower window seal behind the vents https://www.bing.com/images/search?q...+bay&FORM=IGRE

Thanks man. I knew as soon as I posted that it’s too far back. Need to be able to close the hood (???).

Do you really need a hood? A lot of off road bugs run without one

Nope, no hood going on. Gotta show off that engine. I was just using one as a reference point

Got a base coat of paint on the engine. It's a bit rough but I'm going by the three foot rule. It all looks good from three feet away.

Looking good again.

I spotted a Maisto Bug at Target before Christmas and didn’t get it. I went back yesterday, because of you and your thread, but it wasn’t restocked yet. But I think it may be a close match for a SWB using Yota axles. I’ll need to measure just how wide it really is and what poke would be acceptable.

Cool! More bugs is what the world needs. Post a build thread if you go that way. I’ve not seen a Maisto Bug so cant say much.

Cheers,

Todd

It’ll need the stickers removed, lights added, windows cut out, and some trim paint. Easily doable but not the quality of your Bug.

Looks tiny, what's the wheelbase? If it's too small then get a hold of Mardon at MLC Fiberglassing and he can whip up a body like mine for you.

Got a start on some of the detailing. Gotta go buy more paint though.

Bit more paint on today. Need to tone down that bronze and figure out a colour for the shroud.

Well, one thing has been decided, at least part of this car will be red.

Got a few little bits to tidy up. Need to make boots for the spark plugs and paint the air filter but it's basically done for now.

One 3D printed part down, a few more to go. Here's a test fit of the roof rack.

Got a sound module from Beier Electronic in Germany. Never thought I'd get something like this until I heard the Kafer (Beetle) engine sounds. Here it is hooked up to the chassis. Now to figure out how to make it work properly. It'll control lights as well as sound.

Cheers eh,

Todd

Got into the spray booth at work. Way too cold out to paint outside. First coat of primer is on. Now need to putty and sand a couple of rough spots.

Did a bit of body work. If you look at the rear of the picture in my last post you can see that the rear lights were molded into the body. I cut those off as I have another set of the original ones as shown below. Patched the holes with epoxy and fibreglass drywall tape. My top shelf is starting to look like a Beetle wrecking yard.

Default TRX4 Bug

Playing with some paint ideas. Not sure if this is the one or not. Maybe paint the inner panels of the hood red? Red wheels to match? Think it needs chrome trim?
