I like it with the black hood better. I don’t usually like much chrome. I would consider an off road roof rack style basket on top.

Thanks man, love your car. Decided the paint colour wasn’t for me though. New paint coming. Stay tuned.

And the new paint colour is....

The old paint colour! Tried the black and red and decided I really liked it on real cars but I like the flat khaki colour better on my Bug, so here it is.

Look who I had to share the paint booth with.

Can anyone guess what this is for?

Cheers eh,

Todd

You cannot buy the Beetle body from Carisma anymore but you can still buy accessories like lights here. They fit great on this fibreglass body. Next is LEDs. Also need to find some 3mm orange acrylic to try to make the front indicator lights. Still waiting on some Traxxas inner fenders for the Bronco which I plan on cutting down.

Default Running boards

So the first picture below is a craft foam sheet from Michaels that I laser engraved lines into.

I cut it to fit the running boards on the Beetle to try to give it a rubber like effect. Glued it on with contact cement. We'll see how well it holds up.

I'm going make floor mats in a similar way if I ever make an interior. They can also be made using an Xacto knife. Just use thinner foam than in the video.

Yeah, I agree. I had paint on the last body and it was just missing something.

Have you considered a light coat of polyurethane to give a semi gloss protective covering?

Looks damned good either way. Love some air cooled Dubs.

Nope, the thought never entered my mind. I love the super flat look of this paint.

Finally got the magnets glued on for mounting the body. Took some fiddle farting around to get the stance where I want it. Also got the engine mounted in the back. Need to adjust the bracket and move it forward a bit. Front bumper is mounted. So is the exhaust. Still a ton to do though.

Entered the Bug into its first comp today, the first event of the GCM Call to Crawl Series at Calgary's Blackfoot RC Park. It did great, crawled well enough to make me quite happy even though it's half done. Now on to that to do list. Windows, rear bumper, interior, driver, wipers, front signal lights, head and tail lights, winch, roof rack, sunroof (maybe), etc, etc.

Competition was fun, turnout was great.

Added windshield last night. Needs cleaning already. Only 7 windows to go. Trying to think of a way to make opening vent windows.

Here's the source of the plastic for the windows. A polycarbonate (lexan) replacement face shield. Half the price of lexan at the hobby shop. Got this one at Princess Auto for you Canucks.

Also mocked up a rear panel for behind the engine. Got the mount sorted out so the engine sits a little better as well.

Thought this looked familiar...saw it on Chris Rappel's channel at BFRC. Tough looking bug!

Thanks 2mtech. That comp was a lot of fun. Blackfoot RC Park is a cool place to drive and everyone there was great. Chris' video is excellent.

Small progress tonight. Added a firewall and a rear window.

Started mocking up the interior again. I've got a couple of seats coming from Shapeways. Will start the rest of the interior when they get here.

Looks like I need some mirrors.

I decided I need more interior than this.

Here's Sherman, my trusty driver.

And here's where he'll sit. I got two of these bomber seats from Shapeways and silver paint is drying on them as we speak. They're 1/8 scale. Going to add a bit of foam padding to make the driver fit without any surgery.

If work doesn't take up my weekend I hope to get these mounted on some sort of floor in the bug.

Also got a servo winch from Al at HeyOK. gotta shoehorn that in somehow as well. It's going to be controlled with the 4th channel on my radio.

Cheers eh!

Here's the servo winch mounted in a Bowhouse RC Servo Winch and Bumper Mount. Need to pick up some line, a hook and a winch anchor. Also need a bumper with a fairlead I guess.

Here's the start of the interior. Painted the seats, cut off the base and gave Sherman a haircut so he'll fit in the car with a raised floor. Need to add a transmission tunnel, stick shift and the rest of the interior. Also waiting on smaller speakers for the sound system. Black paint will help as well.
