My Wroncho Bug got a new heart transplant! The MMP was replaced with the Mamba X. I have a quite a few MMP ESCs and never had an issue with them but I wanted to finally try out the newer Mamba X ESC to see what I thought of it. I have it set up in Rock Racer / Crawler mode for the Aux wire. I'm using the E thumb button on my DX4S. I haven't tested it other than on my bench, but I have a feeling this going to be good! |

Firmware 2.02 is pretty smooth, you’ll likely notice that right away.

I never used a previous version, so I don't know the difference. I guess that's a good thing.

I'm looking at the Yeti Kit manual and the parts needed are on 2 trees; AX31117 & AX31102

Some new "bling" for the Wroncho Bug. I decided to get an aluminum transmission case and a thicker motor plate. Normally I would go straight to Vanquish to empty my wallet but this time I deviated from my normal; Yeah Racing was the manufacturer I went with for their SCX10 transmission case and motor plate. The difference in cost is quite substantial. A Vanquish trans case is $39.99 USD vs. $16.99 USD for the Yeah Racing version. Same with the motor plate, Axial HD machined motor plate is $32.99 vs. $4.99 for the Yeah Racing version. The YR motor plate is quite thick and has similar cooling fins to the Axial version. I couldn't get the YR motor plate to flex at all so it's obviously going to be strong enough. The YR trans case looks and feels to be very good quality and the bearing fit it excellent, not too tight, not too loose! I opted for a new Axial slipper drive gear shaft in case the older one was slightly warped. New Team Fast Eddy bearing throughout. I already had Hot Racing hard steel trans gears and they looked as good as new. Team KNK SS hardware and aluminum 5mm spacers. Some Axial green grease and the trans was built and ready for installation. Time will tell if I wasted my money with Yeah Racing parts, but I'm feeling very confident that they won't let me down. |

I think you’ll be just fine with that trans setup.

It was Family Day last Monday (Provincial holiday in BC) and my Son and I went out together for a 4 hour crawl up Mt. Doug, the last time I got my Wroncho Bug out was May 2017! This was the first time using the Mamba X ESC believe it or not...all my rigs use MMPs. I must say, I really liked the three stage rock racer/drag brake setting, especially for a larger heavy rig that can crawl and go fast as well. This W/Bug was incredible to drive, it killed every obstacle placed in front of it and there's a few spots that I have only been able to get up with my tiny LCG Twin Hammers and the big Bug conquered those as well....I have to say that his machine is VERY "dialed in". My Son drove my Bomber. |

A couple weeks ago I got out with some buddies and I took my Wroncho Bug out.....unfortunately, after a couple hours into the crawl, my modified Vanquish Panhard mount snapped and I suffered the walk of shame back down to the parking lot! Up until that time, I was very happy with the crawling performance of my Wroncho Bug. I figured the only little improvement needed was slightly more front end weight. I got the Bug onto the bench and decided rather than replace the Panhard mount, I would do to servo on axle steering since I had everything needed to do this. It took lots of work to accomplish this change because one change affected another component and then that change affected yet another component. I finally got it all figured out and dialed in and had a chance to get the Wroncho Bug out for another good crawl just this past weekend. With the servo going to the axle, I thought the lower weight on the axle vs. the CMS setup would be the forward weight I was looking for and I believe it did help, but I still need just a bit more to be satisfied! Nonetheless, this rig performs exceptionally well whether it's technical crawling, bouncing and/or rock face climbing. |

PS....for those with a keen eye, there's a few pics without a rear bumper; those are from the crawl session that the Panhard mount broke and the ones with the rear bumper are from last weekend. Going with a SOA opened up the door for more front bumper choices and I added a Wertymade flat-nose stinger bumper up front and then added the RC4WD metal bumper out back that used to be on the front a long time ago!

There was a bunch of that got out for a 7 hour crawling session Sunday on Mount Doug...the weather was beautiful. My Wroncho Bug performed admirably and at this point, I don't think there's anything I need to change....it's crawling performance was spectacular. There's two lines in particular that have never been conquered by anyone before and it wasn't for a lack of trying either. For years I have been trying to make these lines and the Wroncho Bug finally did it. It wasn't easy and I had to be "in the zone" to pull these off, but man 'O man, it was very rewarding. I did snap two RPM Jato length link ends on two different occasions but that's perfectly fine with me, no broken links and very easy to swap out. Love this rig! Some fun in the sand....in the first clip, keep an eye for my front body clip going for a spin! Last edited by bilinvic; 03-12-2018 at 09:34 AM. |
