SCX10 G6 Kit Build
 

Starting a build thread for my SCX10. I normally tinker with big trucks, but got into nitro RC a while ago. I ended up selling some stuff I got for next to nothing and decided to buy a scale kit to do a somewhat scale build of my 69 GMC. Figured this forum would be able to answer some of my questions along the way.

This was basically the kit when I finished up with it from the box. I upgraded to some G-Made beadlocks that look close to the older GM steel wheels in prep for the body swap, and made my own ESC plate out of some scrap aluminum.

Got the new body cut, and mounted, but I need longer body mounts or a lift to keep from cutting the fenders. Also need to find some round style flares.

Here are some links to some of the videos I have taken so far with the Jeep body on ( I painted it and saved it for when the younger kids want to play). One thing I will be doing shortly is purchasing a better steering servo. I threw an old futaba I had lying around in from the throttle on one of my nitro's. It works, but the wheels won't turn when not moving in high traction places.

Nice body choice.I painted one up a little while back.I used a GearHead lift to get the body clearance without whacking the shit out of the body.

Cool! I own a 1:1 GMC, and one thing I noticed anyway is that the body is a little bit low anyway, the body line is correct, but the bottom of the body should be pretty well even with the bottom of the bumpers. Obviously this wasn't a scale body anyway because it was for an E Maxx, but figured I would give it a go. I am toying with making a flatbed. I like that color combo.

Nice build. I like that you have a separate body for the kids when they want to use it.

I paint the base color inside, and then do all the detail work on the exterior. I know it isn't the "correct" way, but I prefer the painted finish as opposed to the plastic look.

Yes, I will. I just tinker with these when I have time, so maybe a few hours a week.

Got the windows painted last night (need to paint in the trim and vent window surround). Dodged some rain storms and the spray can nozzle decided to explode on me, but I think I saved the paint job.

Finished up painting the 72 Chevy body yesterday, and while I waited for the paint to dry I put the Jeep body on and took it out in the yard. My steering servo is super week, about 40oz of force, but it works for now. Going to pickup something better soon. Also looking to get a set of BFG Krawler tires to mount on these rims. Anyway here are some pictures.

I took it out for about 5 minutes this morning just to grab some photos before work with the new body. All that is really left is to move the axle back to center it in the rear wheel arch, and trim the rocker panels so it looks more scale.

Well my $12 lift plates came in (way easier than fabricating them at that price) I needed just a little more height to clear the wheels at full flex. The rear is a little high still. I measured to move the axle back and it needs to be moved about 1" back to 12.75" wheelbase. Then I will be able to bring it down where it needs to be. I know you sacrifice a bit with any lift, but my goal is a more scale truck, so I want to avoid cutting the fenders away at this point.

Looks great, good job man. The wheels are a perfect choice and even look the part on the Jeep!

Now all that is really left is getting some tires I like the looks of. Leaning towards the BFG Krawler 1.9s. Also considering fender flares, but finding round ones is hard so might have to do some fabricating.
